Valve Software's Erik Johnson confirmed last month that the Xbox version of Counter-Strike has a single campaign based on the upcoming PC game Condition Zero (also developed by Ritual Entertainment) plus multiplayer content that will expand upon the traditional Counter-Strike PC mod. This past weekend some info about Counter-Strike for the Xbox was leaked onto the Internet and we bring you the lowdown:

Condition Zero:

The single player campaign is based on Counter Strike: Condition Zero for the PC and features 20 unique single-player missions, taking place in several countries, each with its own storyline and special gameplay features. However, there won’t be a plot that ties the different levels. Each mission in Counter-Strike for the Xbox will have a main objective and minor sub-missions, with some of these being time-based or stealth missions, while others are all about action. It was also revealed that there will be seven different counter-terrorist groups in which you’ll play an anonymous member of each group. For example, in the Florida level, which takes place in the Bank of Miami, you’ll play as a member of a SWAT group who must infiltrate the bank and neutralize the bank robberies without causing any casualties. The Xbox version of Counter-Strike will be an enhanced version of Condition Zero for the PC with highly-detailed models using 24-bit textures, improved lighting techniques and particle effects. Counter-Strike for the Xbox will also introduce new weapons, including a M60 Machine Gun, the Syringe and the Machete.

Online Multiplayer:

Counter-Strike is the king of online PC multiplayer shooters, a game that was born to be played on Xbox Live. The multiplayer portion of Counter-Strike for the Xbox will expand upon the traditional Counter-Strike PC mod, offering five new multiplayer maps not available yet in the traditional Counter-Strike mod for the PC. Players will join either a terrorist or a counter-terrorist force and play in one of the five types of modes. These are:

Hostage Rescue - where the counter-terrorists must rescue hostages.

Bomb / Defuse - where terrorists must plant a bomb in a critical area and counter-terrorists must defuse the bomb.

Escape - where the terrorists must escape from the counter-terrorists.

Assassination - Where the VIP must be escorted by the counter-terrorists to an escape point.

Xbox Exclusive - an Xbox exclusive mode that may be available as downloadable content on the launch date.

Another interesting element of the multiplayer levels will be the addition of offline bots (no yet available on the PC) and scripted events like explosions happening during online matches.

Only on Xbox: Mods, Clans and Much More

Yes, for the very first time in console video gaming Microsoft, Valve and Ritual Entertainment will offer tools for you to create new mods for Counter-Strike and design new maps, weapons and characters models. Once you complete the project, you’ll be able to submit it to Valve, who will test the project following strict procedures and release them as downloadable content through Xbox Live.

Another exciting feature of Counter-Strike for the Xbox will be the support for Clans. You’ll be able to create your own clans’ logos and then during matches you or any member of your team can spray the clan’s logo on any surface in the level. If you have played CS for the PC you know what it is and how it feels.

Rumors on the Internet also tell that with the launch of Counter-Strike for the Xbox, several new features will debut on Xbox Live, including an IRC-like soft that will use the Communicator instead of a keyboard. This soft will be close tight with a new Clans feature.

So as you can see, Counter-Strike for the Xbox is shaping up quite well and far from being a port of the PC version. This game and its innovative features will cease the pain while you wait for Halo 2.

I wonder what they'll name the maps, I remember the old ones were like:

de_dust (for bomb defusal or something)
cs_estate (for.. counter-strike?) hostage rescue
as_glacier (for VIP assassination)

I've never plated escape before, but I'll definetely love to.

i think it would be cool if we could make our own player skins too. I remember when i played CS for PC, i used a DMC Dante skin, Solid Snake skin, and a Deadpool skin from i think X Men all for my CT guys.

the other players couldnt see em, but when i took screenies and make vidoes it looked pretty sweet.
