View Full Version : Mario On Xbox?

I was on the teamxbox forums and ran across this article from IGN about the best games in 2004. At the end of the article they had this to say about their next instalment on this issue, released tommorrow:

"We'll have our final installment tomorrow as we conclude our look into the future of Xbox. What tasty bits will be revealed? Here's a hint: He's an Italian plumber with a thing for red overalls."

Does it mean Mario is coming to xbox? Xbox and Nintendo merger? Xbox buying Nintendo? This is really exciting.

No way will Mario ever make his way to the green in the near future. They probably just wanted to make ppl think the same thing you did. And thats why IGN sucks

Yeah that is horse crap that would never happen. Mario is too imature to be on a real gaming machine other than soft touchy nintendo gamecube which is against violence. I woulnd never buy it mario represents nintendo not microsoft!

If that would be true, I'd be happy. Only because Nintendo owns CAPCOM

Unless Nintendo is dropping out of the console race and relegating themselves to being a third-party developer, this will never happen. In a way, it's already been proven:

When Microsoft bought Rare, Rare brought with them all the licenses to the games they developed for Nintendo, with one noteable exception: Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong is a Nintendo trademark, belonging exclusively to Nintendo. Rare were not allowed to take it with them. So what was the first game to feature Mario? DONKEY KONG!! Remember the old arcade game? In that game, you were Mario, out to rescue that woman trapped in a cage by Donkey Kong. The two trademarks are intertwined, and Nintendo couldn't get rid of Mario without also getting rid of DK.

Of course, new developments could be the "tasty bits" that are referred to in that article. Perhaps Nintendo has entered into some sort of profit-sharing plan to distribute a Mario game on Xbox, but why would they treat one of their flagship titles so callously? As long as Nintendo is third in the console race, they're going to hold on to whatever they can in order to sell Gamecubes. Letting Mario go to another console would be commercial suicide.

You're probably right... maybe they're only third here in the US. Video game news isn't my forte. :D

Nintendo was 2nd in most of asia while falling to third in most of Europe (due to the xbox's strong christmas sells) and 3rd in North America.

Even independant anaylyst say they are 3rd in global sells.

Why it will be great: Mario's fared quite well throughout his lifespan. He's gone from platforming pioneer to 3D superstar. But he's yet to conquer the online world. That changes with the launch of Xbox 2, as Mario's world is brought into the online arena. The coins, the stars, the funny little Italian voice, and his "brother" Luigi are all still there.

Now gamers will be able to play as one of eight famous Mario characters in a co-operative adventure that will take them through twenty different worlds as they battle Bowser and his evil hoard. And the head-to-head 20-player battles will be even more intense than those found in Conker's Other Bad Fur Day.

There's not greater video game all-star than Mario and the wonders of Xbox 2 will bring his world to life like never seen before. Whether playing offline or online, gamer's will have the best Mario yet. And let's not forget the special GBA 2 connectivity, which will allow for downloadable mini-games to be stored on a GBA 2 for play away from home. And of course, the special Mario Tamagachi mini-game to boot!

Why it will be Xbox 2: There's no greater mascot than Mario and no system in greater need of a mascot than Xbox. It's the perfect fit. Following Nintendo's 2004 decision to stop producing hardware outside of the GameBoy Advance, Microsoft will quickly shell out a fortune to be the exclusive home for Mario. No Starfox, no Samus, no other Nintendo characters exclusively on Xbox -- Just Mario and his little world. The positives for MS would be through the roof and the cash incentive for Nintendo would be enough to buckle the Japanese giant's proud legs enough for Mario to make Xbox 2 his new home.

I just recently replied to another person talking about GTA:World being announced in Oct 2004 with an exclusive XB live version.

Why it'll be great: October 2004 proves to be a pivotal time in vidoegame history as Rockstar announces its intentions to take the GTA franchise to multiple consoles including an exclusive online version at launch for Xbox 2. Getting Samuel Jackson to reprise his role as Jules Winfield and casting him in the lead of GTA:World means Xbox 2 will become the most anticipated console launch in history.

It said they'll announce it in Oct 2004.

As i said in that thread, this article is just a joke, I-wish, prediction thing.

Its always fun to predict but that is the biggest piece of trash ive read in a while. Pre-E3 stinks, news is always slow and you start seeing these dumb lists.

It doesn't seem too far fetch. I mean nobody thought to see Sonic on a Nintendo console.

Well i think it wouldn't be too bad xbox needs more big name titles and mario is huge. I was also so tempted to buy a cube and mario is high up there on the list of games i would get. But if it came to xbox or xbox 2 that would be pretty cool and i liked donkey kong too.
