Microsoft Announces New Pricing Options for Xbox Live

May 8, 2003

Xbox Live gamers around the globe will be excited to hear about a host of new pricing options to debut this fall in North America. With renewal rates remaining the same as the Xbox Live launch last fall, Microsoft today announced the following pricing details:

Xbox Live one year renewal/subscription $49.99
Xbox Live monthly rate $5.99
Xbox Live Voice Communicator $29.99
Xbox Live Starter Kit $69.99

To make it easier for everyone to experience the thrill of Xbox Live, a two month free trial will also be widely available this fall.

The subscription rate means those already enjoying the service will be able to extend their service for a full year, at the same price that was available when the service launched last November. Renewals can take place online or consumers can also purchase subscriptions cards from their favorite retailer. The monthly rate is perfect for those who want to test out Xbox Live, or for sports fans who only want to play during their favorite sports season. And for the first time, the Voice Communicator headset will be sold separately.

The starter kit, which includes the Voice Communicator, one year’s service and some fun pack-in games, is the perfect all-in-one choice for those wanting to experience the thrill on online gaming. Over $100 in value, the starter kit is all anyone needs to begin playing any Xbox Live game with players all over the world.

The new Xbox Live pricing options will go into effect this fall in North America. Details on pricing updates in other Xbox Live markets have yet to be announced.

Great news Josh! Thanks for the info! I guess I'll be picking up one of those communicators again. Hopefully they'll be a little more sturdy this time though!:cuss:

I think this is awesome for the XBOX and LIVE. The prices are just right IMHO. :) You heard it here first!

Well, the new people are kinda getting screwed, ya know? But hey, same price is cool with me.

Oh and for the beta testers, remember that our subscriptions don't end until December :D

Rant: I hate you SBC and Comcast

The thing that sucks is by the time I can get Dsl or a cable modem my XBox kit will have run out.

Why can't you connect?

And also, you should let them know that....make them pay for your 1 year :cuss:

Because I'm 960 feet too far for ADsl(have to be with in 17,500 feet for SBCs Adsl) & Comcast doesn't give a rat ass this year to upgrade the cable modem network so more can get it.

And IDsl sucks too bad and is over priced.

Beginning this fall, however, selected games will include free trial subscriptions to Xbox Live.

"Many of the games that we ship this fall will include two months of free service. If you buy Amped II, for example, you can just put in the disc, connect up to the service, and play Amped II on Xbox Live."

i hope only sports games since i hate sports.
