Dead to Rights gets a spin-off!

May 09, 2003 - Though it suffered from mixed critical reaction, the sales numbers behind Namco's popular movie-like action game Dead to Rights told the story enough: gamers like Grant City. That knowledge in hand, Namco announced today that it has decided to go back to the same rough and tumble locale that spawned DTR for an immediate spin-off, Extreme Force: Grant City Anti-Crime. And though the game won't feature major characters from the first title, there could still be several surprises in store for those of you that played through the original (though Namco isn't saying what they could be).
Slated for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in Q4 2003, Extreme Force can best be described as an action adventure game with a heavy emphasis on properly executing strategies and tactics; Casting gamers into the role of an elite member of the Grant City Anti-Crime Squad, players will be inundated with a bevy of special weapons and items (like the night vision goggles, grenades, and door charges), while simultaneously implementing several stealth maneuvers not unlike the disarm techniques of Dead to Rights. Action fans needn't worry either though, as there are plenty of mindless run-and-gun combat missions to compete in as well.

Expect us to return with more details for Grant City Anti-Crime later, including our hands-on impressions. In the meantime, click on our media page below for the first batch of screenshots, and hang tight for more.
