It's old news that EA won't be making Live games, but this is the first time i have heard EA say it:

IGN Have it here (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/402/402229p1.html)

May 13, 2003 - In an announcement made today by the president of Electronic Arts, John Ricietello, it was confirmed in front of a stunned audience that every single EA Sports game released this year would be exclusively online for the PlayStation 2. Colorfully unveiled at the Sony E3 press conference, Ricietello dropped the bombshell only moments before a demonstration of the six of a planned nine online games using established sports stars. Even more impressive was the inclusion of online voice chat (dubbed EA Sports Talk) in every game.

The highlight of the demonstration was the online match-up between PGA Tour star Tiger Woods and special event guest Cedric the Entertainer as they battled it out in Tiger's self-titled sports game. Much to the delight and surprise of the crowd, Cedric beat Tiger by one shot, and the applause was overwhelming.

Below is the list of the PS2 online-exclusive EA Sports games:

FIFA Soccer 2004

Madden NFL 2004

NASCAR Thunder 2004

NBA Live 2004

NCAA Football 2004

NCAA March Madness 2004

NHL 2004

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004

Unnamed (Likely MVP 2004)

IGN will return with more as it becomes available.

Damn EA, i bet this all because they wanted to charge a monthly fee, but Microsoft said no.
Then again, i would not play any of those games on Live anyway, i'm not into Sports. But it's still annoying to see a huge company like EA being so narrow minded. :cuss:

EA is justing hurting them selfs by doing this.

Adding XBL into there games would help in the sales number and plus they have no cost in server support for EA.

It would be a win-win for them to support XBL in there games.

But No they have to be Boneheads. :cuss:

There's obviously a lot of things going on that we don't know about, but it really comes down to that making a live enabled game up to this point has been a license to print money.

I never would have abandoned Madden if EA hadn't taken this ridiculous posture. Oh well, Sega makes the better game anyway.

I was really hoping that EA would jump on the live wagon this year but I guess not. I wonder how much Sony is paying them to do this.

In a way, I am happy that they don't support Live. Before I was strictly EA sports all the way. But now, with them not supporting live for the 2003 games, I tried Sega's and realized how awesome they were.

I am starting a personal boycott of, for now, all EA games on XBOX. They wont sell me one. And forever if there is a sports game that someone else makes, I will get it instead. NHL2003 sucks anyway. The XSN line looks like it will kick EAs butt anyway, and if not there is SEGA too.

EA is a greedy lazy company. At least with most of those titles we have competition like with football, hockey, basketball and maybe soccer. I'm joining the EA boycott. The competition makes better games anyway.:D

The main reason why EA won't allow their games to go on XBox Live is because EA wants control. For instance, let's say Madden 2003 was on XBox Live...EA would want Madden 2003 to be dropped from XBox Live and replace it with Madden 2004 so everyone would have to go out and buy the newer version. Microsoft basically said (and I paraphrase) "No way" because Microsoft wants all XBox Live enabled games to always have the ability to be played on the network...regardless of a game having a successor.

If anything, I think EA really looks bad with this.

It's funny reading that article. It said "Ricietello dropped the bombshell" by announcing that no EA game will be played on XBox Live...lol...and they said that the audience was "stunned". BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA...that audience must not know a damn thing...we were talking about this crap months ago!! :D

It is from the PS2 section of IGN, so they will make a big deal out of it.

But the Xbox section, only has a tiny article on it:
Look (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/402/402243p1.html)

May 13, 2003 - In the category of "What a friggin' shock," today Sony announced at their press conference that EA would only support online play for PS2. That means no Madden, NBA Live, or March Madness on Xbox Live this year. There is still the possibility EA and Microsoft will reach some accord so that the EA games of 2004 can be played on Xbox Live. This year, though, it's not going to happen.

I never knew that if say Madden '03 was Live enabled that EA wants it dropped when Madden '04 comes out. Good for MS to stand up to them.

I thought about writing EA and telling them that I won't buy another EA game until they have Live but I'd rather speak with my wallet than my pen. I don't care how good Madden '04 looks I won't even look at it. Same goes for all of their games. Hopefully Ea will sell less Xbox games this year than TDK did with Shrek.

one word sums up EA on this announcement...Greedy :watchout:

Greed sums EA as a company in 2 ways :mad:
1. The Sims.
Do I need to name every damb version? fine...

The Sims (x4; Xbox, PS2, GC, PC) = $190
Livin Large = $30
House Party = $30
Hot Date = $30
Deluxe Edition = $30
Unleashed = $30
Superstar = $30
Vacation = $30
The Sims 2 = $40
The Sims Bustin' Out (x3; Xbox, PS2, GC) = $150

Let's do the math... (if bought on release date)....w/tax = $625.40:mad::mad::mad::mad:
I do relize nobody would own ALL versions, but you get the idea.

2. This Announcement.

Doesn't EA have some involvement in the Medal of Honor series? Imagine not only how much fun an online MOH game would be, but how much money they could make. I find it hard to believe that Sony has matched the predicted profits from xbox live games made by EA.

No they don't. MOH online would be terrible and they would actually lose money by making the games because no one would buy them. Have fun playing MOH alone online.

Oh yeah, make sure to get the hell off of these forums Mike.

Medal of Honour is great online, and a Live version would be great too. But i would rather stay away from EA's online plans at the moment. There either going to charge a fee to use it online, or stop a 2003 version of a game working online as soon as the 2004 version comes out.

Either way it's a rip off.
