They didn't get the names wrong; they've always been like that in Japan. They were changed for the US release.

And what do you mean previous games? This is the first one.

Capcom VS SNK was developed by Capcom; SNK VS Capcom: Chaos is developed by SNK/Playmore.

Besides some characters, they have nothing in common.
