Recent reports suggest that Valve Software's first-person sequel won't be coming to the Xbox console as previously announced.

A recent report in the Puget Sound Business Journal contains a quote from David Hufford, a product manager in Microsoft's Xbox group, acknowledging that Half-Life 2 won't be released for the Xbox as was previously announced. The lengthy article discusses the ongoing battle between Microsoft and Sony and, after mentioning that EA has no plans to incorporate Xbox Live functionality into its sports games, and that Halo 2 won't be available until March next year, mentions quite matter-of-factly that the future of Half-Life 2--which we voted our Game of Show after returning from E3 this year--on the Xbox is, at best, in doubt.

"As of now, Half-Life 2 is not going to be on the Xbox," said Hufford. "Valve is sending us mixed messages on that."

Did you read any of the previews on HL2, if you did you would know it will run on your computer. Will it look as good as a computer with a 3Ghz and a dx9 class video card: NO. In the preview they talked about how it will run a P3-700(could need a P3-800 by the time it comes out) with a TnT1 or 2(that's a dx6 class video card). HL2(and any game using the engine) is very scalable.

Here go read Sierra's Faq on the game:

Do I think they will make a version for the XBox yes, but Valve will find someone other then them to port it. But They will not be be looking into porting it to after it shippes for the pc.

I thought I heard this around E3 that it was only coming for PC? Or was I just imagining things?

I'm with Casper...I want to hear it from the horse's mouth: Microsoft.

But, one thing is for sure, even if Half Life 2 was coming to XBox for sure, I'm still not nearly as pumped up for that game as I am for Halo 2.

Microsoft's David Hufford, product manager of the Xbox group, in a report by Puget Sound Business Journal is quoted wrongly saying "Half-Life 2 is not going to be on the Xbox." This statement conflicts with assurances made by Valve Software's Doug Lombardi earlier last month that an Xbox version of the game is in development.

Lombardi today told GameSpy Half-Life 2 is certainly in development for the Xbox. "Half-Life 2 is planned for the PC and Xbox. We've announced the shipping date for the PC version [September 30, 2003 - ed.], and we'll announce a shipping date for the Xbox version later in the year."

Microsoft was unavailable for comment on Hufford's statement at the time of publication.

Sounds like to me that he's saying We are puting it out first for the pc then porting to XBox.

I never played the regular multiplayer for Half-Life....I played TFC mostly, and counter-strike. But we shall see if Half-Life 2's multiplayer is cool :)

Two Words: E3 2004

That will tell the tale of Half Life 2 and the Xbox.

Too many rumors going around, like Casper has said, if it aint from M$, i dont believe it.

Most of you have probably already viewed this, so my apologies for posting "old news" if this is the case.

The old version of Xbox Live only allowed gamers to talk to one another in a central online portal area, but the new version enables them to communicate while actually playing games.

uh.. isn't that BS?? Haven't we always been able to talk while playing games?

same article as abovehttp://seattle.bizjournals.com/seattle/stories/2003/06/02/story7.html
