I've been online for about a month and my experiences have been mixed and mostly disapointing.

My games are Moto GP2,Unreal Championship and NFL Fever 2003 and apart from meeting Sidhgwin, who is the funniest man alive,it's been very lame.:(

For starters, people on my friends list only apear once in a blue moon!I play them once then they disapear!

The Voice communicator is horrid.People I pkay either yell, scream, talk trash or don't talk what so ever!

All my games allow guests which helps alittle. It keeps games friendly playing with your bro online. But some games don't even bother with the feature!

I'm looking at you,Ghost Recon!:cuss: Why?Split screen is fun and it is better than playing with the jerks online so why didn't they have split screen online?!!

Is it just me having bad luck or is Microsofts Online system not as good as it's cracked up to be?

Get Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and then you'll really start noticing how fun it is. It happened to me until I got return. About people yelling and that, that's what the volume thing on the xbox controller adapter is for..:watchout: ...so thatz it...l8ter hope you enjoy live..:p

I hate return to castle wolfentein.:cuss:

Why didn't they put the guest feature in?Complete oversight!

Anybody any advice on how to make this hostile service better?

I don't have any advise but, you can't stop people from trash talking, and make people start talking.... I mean, if you don't like it, then you don't like, it's that simple. :D Plus, We all know ( besides "Freegard" ) that XBox Live kicks ASS!!!

Matt, I hear what you're saying. I was a little disappointed at first also. I find it best to play with people you know. That way, you won't get the profanity and childishness.

I suggest giving it another chance, well I guess you have too if you bought it for the year :D . Tetris is fun online and so is outlaw volleyball. Just wait untill Links 2004 and Topspin come out, then I think we will all see how Xbox Live will can shine! Of course Halo 2 will be great (Howevever, I am very, very, very sceptical about this. Especially if they don't put up dedicated servers!)

Most of these all have to do with you and your friends rather than the actual service.
For starters, people on my friends list only apear once in a blue moon!I play them once then they disapear!

Get better friends.

The Voice communicator is horrid.People I pkay either yell, scream, talk trash or don't talk what so ever!
Again, it is the people you are playing, not the service. You do have the option of muting individuals or everyone all at once.

All my games allow guests which helps alittle. It keeps games friendly playing with your bro online. But some games don't even bother with the feature!
Guests in every game probably would be a nice standard feature and useful for some people. I would never use it though. Online play is to get away from the horrid split screen gaming.

I like Xbox Live a lot, and I play it all the time. I don't find any of the problems you mention, except to a minor degree and easily avoided.

I have played PS online and I had the same prob...but sometimes you will meet someone that is really cool...I think what you have to understand that with online play you are letting the world biggest losers a chance to talk sh*t to you. like the others said its not the service it’s the people that suck...

and thunderkiss2k1 wtf ....did you start the forum with those many post....didn’t think so be gone you no life having troll.

Try hosting the games, that way when idiots come in, you just use the KICK feature in every game :P

Well, thanxs for the input and I exspecially like the one about me being a forum troll.

I am aware that it's not the service that's bad it's the people I play.

For example, when playing Unreal,I got some real racist stick from a American and a dumb Canadian(not saying all Canadians are dumb).I started saying hello, what's up and they just started taking the **** out of me because I'm english.I sent bad feedback but I doubt microsoft even read it.:(

I might take some time off live and play on KOTOR when it comes out.I waited about a year to get broadband in my area JUST for xbox live, and I am greatly disapointed...

That's the unfortunate thing with some of the gamers on Live is that people just don't know how to play with courtesy and respect. You can talk trash, just don't be an ass about it. You can play and get beat, just don't be a sore loser, and above all, avoid cheating. Those that can't follow those rules of etiquite are rampant on Live, which is unfortanate for those that are unlucky enough to chance upon one of these gamers. I highly recommend finding a good group of people to play with on a regular basis. Whether that be someone from these boards or someone that you find on Live and you have become 'friends' with. In my case, the DDC tends to play with a select few amount of people because we know those people and everyone plays fairly. I just wish you luck on finding your group of friends, and highly recommend checking out some on here. It's hard to get away from your reputation if you screw someone over on Live and then come on XBA.

Finally, I definetly recommend KOTOR regardless. I was hooked for a couple of weeks on that game, and I will still play it later!

Nothing wrong with profanity! We should we censor? Or be afraid of words when playing a video game..? :watchout:

I will always leave a game, or at least mute the player, if someone won't shut up (often a kid), is relentlessly obnoxious (often a drunk), or just plain rude or mean-spirited. I don't hang around those people in real life, and I sure as hell won't put up with them soiling my Xbox experience. If you implement some jerk-screening techniques such as these, your experience will be much better, Matt. Give it another try. You just had a bad first experience. It's not usually like that. I love playing with Brits, personally, and so do a lot of others. You guys know how to have fun.

Go to hell Arven drunks are people too :)

Generally I find the most obnoxious and offensive are kids.

But it is important to build up a good FL. Not just random people from games, but people you enjoy playing with.

As far as the lack of guest players, I don't really miss it. While it might be nice occasionally, I am constantly wishing for more screen when I play. Split-screen drives me crazy.

Well, I sure hope am I! I've had a few too many and probably acted like an ass a time or two on Live, so I'm not judging...though I think I've got a better handle on my drunken behavior than most people, since I'm an Irish alcoholic and have lots of practice holding my liquor. I try not to act like an idiot on Live, even after I've had a few too many, but I'm sure I'm an ass sometimes. Oh well. Playing with drunk or stoned people can be fun, sometimes. They laugh more and talk more, whereas sober people are usually quiet, sometimes too quiet. Also, they're usually easier to beat -- even though, speaking personally, I shoot much straighter, and drive much better, when I'm drunk. Yup, I sure do. :)

Like everyone is saying... It is all about the the people you play with. Meet some good friends in the REAL world or in this XBA world and hook up and play with them. I too got burnt out on live by playing with too many chodes. It's real hard to just jump in and join a random game.... thats good.

I recently hooked up with a couple cool head from www.gamertagedatabase.com. You can read about people there and figure out what type of gamer theye are... or at least what type of gamer they think they are.

I find alot of Douchebag Teenagers and Grown men playing Live, well at least SOF2 on Live and making extermely high pitched noises and yelling and breathing into the mic.

One that stands out that is just a big ol' d0uche and a half is a guy named p33fr33ly.

My clan beat him not once but twice in a SOF2 Match and he talked shyt the whole time we played, before we played and after we beat him twice.

One thing he cried about is that we set the time limit to 25 mins and he had agreed to it before we started the game, and after we win the last map and time runs out, he says 25 is a bull**** time limit and he wants a rematch!

I mean WTF MAN!?!?!?! This guy is a grown man with kids too!! and he kept talking **** saying I was a b1tch, a pu$$y, and "My Squad Sux!". And we beat them another time and he disconnected from the game as soon as the 3rd map loaded.

Anyways, Its people like this that I usually run into Online. There are some good players everynow and then tho. And when I say good, i mean good at the game and a good attitude.

I agree with you all....mostly on the kids. Dont get me wrong im a teenager myself....but i hate when little kids start talking in the mic, ALOT. They all seem to have the same screechy voice too  . Anyways i wouldnt give up on XBL and if your a teenager and have friends that play it makes it even better  . If you ever wanna play wit a few teenagers that just like to play give me an invite.:D

Firstly I'm glad to know I'm not the only one wit this problem.
Secondly what games do you own?

RudedogX
09-09-2003, 08:40 AM
GR:IT and ESPN Football in addition to RTCW. Those are mostly the games I play. If it's military based, you'll find the DDC on it. As for the others, I don't know.

Matt Freegard
09-09-2003, 02:40 PM
The games I own are on my sig.And also I have friends over quite often so I like games with the guest feature so that excludes Return To Castle Wolfenstein.I just don't wanna isolate myself from my social life so if someone asks for a game online,I can just say join in!

Does anybody know why ID didn't put the guest feature in?

Duke

ID? you mean IT?

Couldn't tell ya. But personally, I have games I play w/ friends, and games I play only live/solo. A game like IT, to me, would hurt a lot w/ a split screen.

I need every small centimeter of space to examine to see if it's a bush, a dip in the road, a tree stump, or some jerkface aiming at me. Cut it in half? NONONONONO
