Following up on the recent announcement of Magatama, Famitsu Weekly brings news of another first-party game for the Xbox in Japan. Phantom Dust is another action game, trading medieval Japan for a post-apocalyptic future.
The game's development is headed up by Yukio Futatsugi, who in a past generation was the director of Sega's Panzer Dragoon. His latest production is an action game in the Devil May Cry mold, with a much wider selection of attack options for the playable characters. Apparently, its hero is to be capable of as many as 300 different combat skills.

"Heroes" would be a better word, though, since Phantom Dust promises Xbox Live support for multiplayer action with voice chat enabled. As many as four players can slug it out in destructible science-fiction environments online.

Phantom Dust is approximately halfway complete, and Microsoft is shooting for a release in Japan some time in 2004. We'll likely get our first look at it before the end of the month, at the Tokyo Game Show.
