X03, the Xbox® brand event held over the past two days in the South of France, concluded today with a closing ceremony that showcased some of the high points of the event.

Hal Rotholz, whose gamertag is Zamees, a 24 year old from the United States, was announced by Eduardo Rosini, regional vice president, Home and Retail Division, Microsoft, as winner of the Inaugural Xbox® LiveTM Clash of the Continents Tournament. Finalists from eight European countries plus the US and Canada showed off their Xbox Live gaming skills on Rainbow Six 3 from Ubi Soft, which saw its European playable premiere at X03. Zamees saw off some stiff competition to win the grand prize, a year's supply of Xbox games plus a copy of Rainbow Six 3 when published.

The inaugural X03 Game of the Show awards, a new aspect of X03, recognised Rainbow Six 3 from Ubi Soft as Game of Show. Voted on by a panel of Europe's most influential games journalists, Rainbow Six 3 was judged to be the most outstanding example of Xbox gameplay at X03.

Two additional awards showcased technical achievement and innovation. Ninja Gaiden from Tecmo was awarded the X03 Technical Achievement Award for to its incredibly rich and detailed visual effects, creating a complete fantasy world for the gamer. Fable, from Lionhead Studios/Microsoft Game Studios, was awarded the X03 Innovation Award. A groundbreaking re-examining of the role-playing genre, Fable includes many innovative features that set it apart from the competition.

A secluded beach in the south of France was the venue for X03 this year, with almost 1,000 European games press and retail representatives gathering to hear key announcements, enjoy more than 100 games heading to Xbox over the next twelve months, and party to the sounds of British trip-hop legends Massive Attack.

I'm so damn pumped up for Rainbow Six: 3 that it's not even funny. Best game of show? That's definately music to my ears.
