Inspired by Hong Kong action films, True Crime: Streets of L.A. lets players assume the role of tough-as-nails detective Nick Kang, who is bent on settling a personal vendetta with the L.A. underworld. As Kang, you will be able to dispense your own personal brand of justice through automotive combat, a variety of rib cracking martial arts moves and the business end of dual 45s.

Developed by Luxoflux, the creators of the Vigilante 8 series, the game blends multiple genres into a single cinematic action game. Car chases, shootouts, foot pursuits and hand-to-hand combat are all in a day's work when it comes to taking down the Russian and Chinese mobs.

We had the opportunity to chat with Executive Producer Chris Archer and talk about the game.

This is an unavoidable question and you’ve probably been asked several times. but we’ll ask it anyway. Inevitably, True Crime will be compared to GTA and The Getaway. Is True Crime influenced by the GTA franchise? In which areas is True Crime different from GTA and The Getaway?

Archer: Of course all games inspire us as developers and in turn we attempt to take everything to the next level. We love games like GTA and The Getaway as these titles have only encouraged and challenged us to be even better. While True Crime is very unique, we use the top titles in each genre - fighting, shooting and driving - as a litmus test to make True Crime the best that it can be as well as competitive with each of the top products from each genre all in one game.

When I played this game it was kinda fun. I was not really into it that much the first time, but when I played it again I thought it was better. I think the driving aspect of it will be fun but ramping all over the city was a big part of my fun time in GTA:VC so I hope that kinda thing is in this game.

Just look at those screens and compare 'em to the GTA:VC double-pack screens they've been showing for the Xbox. I have never, and just might never, play Vice City as I have high, high hopes for this game. If everything comes off as planned, I think these guys could give Rockstar something to think about.

Here's to keeping your fingers crossed.

The screens for True Crime definately look better the GTA!

I think, however, that I am going to take the exact opposite approach. I am going to buy GTA/Vice City and waite and see if True Crime pans out to be the game we think it is going to be. I have two reasons for this. 1. I have never played a GTA title before and 2. GTA has proven itself to be a good game (at least it appears that way to me.)

Good thinking Tim, I have played alot of GTA and GTA:VC, they are great and will be even better on XB. It will be a good idea to rent TC and see how it pans out. I mean I was all for The Getaway till I played it. I mean it was a great game on its own merits but I was compairing it to GTA and not liking it because of that. This will be the same I bet, I will need to just play it for what it is, and totaly new and dif game.
