View Full Version : What happened to the fans?

I want everyone to be honest with me here. Does it not seem like some of the companies who have had big hits (Bungie, Vivendi) have let all of their fame go to their heads? I mean since May, Bungie has released two screenshots of Halo 2. Two. I know they're really busy making a game, but it can't take that long to release at least a lousy screenshot or two once in awhile. They know their title is going to sell big no matter what they do, so it seems like they just don't care how they treat the fans with info on their new game. What happened to the fans?

Welcome, my friend to the world of big business. It branches out everywhere- From gaming to sports to Fortune500 companies. You hit the nail right on the head when you said that they'll sell craploads no matter what they do. Ah well.

-Know what tho? I have this sinking suspicion that once Halo 2 finally does hit shelves, all will be forgotten. :D

As far as lack of Halo 2 screenshots goes, they probably realize that no matter who many (or few) shots the release, the game is going to sell like crazy anyway. I personally like not seeing or knowing too much. That way when the game comes out, there's so much new stuff to discover.

Two screenshots eh?

I guess these (http://halo.bungie.org/screenshots/index.html?showonly=halo2) screenshots are of a different game. And this (http://www.xbox.com/en-ca/halo2/default.htm) trailer is definetly for a COMPLETELY different game. Maybe a game called Olah -2. Some sort of backwards mexican game...

Urkel's got a point... They have continued to release material. While it may not be much, its more than what your thinking. What you all need is a new source: Halo2.owns.it. Become one of the informed.

Some of you are trying to flame me without fully reading my post. How many screenshots has BUNGIE released SINCE MAY? By going to BUNGIE'S site, you can find the answer. I'm not writing this post about lack of being able to find content, I'm writing it because I don't like that these game developer's get the attitude that they don't need to listen to fans. I'm not limiting this to Halo/Bungie either. I also am not trying to cause any fights. We all know about the halo trailer and fansites. Please, if you're going to be an idiot, at least be an informed idiot first.

So tell me then, if these pictures and trailers are not coming from Bungie/Microsoft who are they coming from? There is no way they would be out there if they didn't come from the developer/publisher so they must be from a different game. Olah -2?

SINCE MAY "MerimacHamwich". We all know about that stuff. If you would actually READ MY ORIGINAL POST, I am talking about the last 6 1/2 months. E3 was in May. The trailer released in May. The plethora of screenshots...MAY!!! Since then Bungie has given us 2 screenshots. You have ruined this entire thread now because you cannot read and comprehend information. Please, just quit posting on this thread.

the worst offender i n this category is valve, IMO. a media blitz at e3 than ONE new trailer (the dx9 effects on the rooftop with the big bug) that wasnt show at e3. then a week before the release they say its delayed, say theyve been hacked, and go silent.

then counter-strike:condition zero was supposed to be out 2 days ago...but its not. no press release from valve or turtle rock studios or vivendi or sierra...nothing.

it just didn't appear.

but oh, they had the game of the year in 1998, so its cool:watchout:

but ya ill buy hl2 wen it comes out eventually dont get me wrong.

We have a lot of screenshots and like two trailers about Halo 2. I think it's enough for a tease before the release. :p

They shou step up and make some anouncements about releases and I'd agree with you if Gabe (#1 guy at Valve) didn't answer his emails personally. Anybody in his kind of position who is cool enough to do that respects his fans.

If you can track down his personal email he will answer you. I've not tried it, but I've seen cut & paste relies to members of other forums, so the address isn't a big secret. Track it down and ask him yourself. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprized:)

Y'know what, I am not so sure I will. My hype for the game has gone down dramatically. I am looking forward to Battle Field Vietnam more.

Raise your hands if you are not going to buy Halo2 when it comes out....................... see Merimac, no one. :D

Who cares? I don't want the game until it's finished. Maybe a demo but that's it.

I really don't care about seeing new screen shots, and I'm guessing a lot of people would concur. Sure, the first batch is important to wet the appetite, but I'm ready to play the game. Besides, I want to be surprised by what I see. I don't want to see every new enemy that might show up, or every locale. They've shown just enough to get us excited. Sure, the could release new screenshots of MC beating the **** out of the Ape-thing, but we've already seen that.

You get the jist with the first few press releases. Everything after that is mostly for people who missed it the first time.

And if Bungie didn't care for their fans, we would have had Halo 2 a year ago and it would've been mediocre and made just for money. Heck, we'd probably be playing Halo 3: The Alien Inside where MC is turned into a kid, enters sleep land and must destroy the evil dragon that resides there. Yeah, Bungie doesn't care about fans...

I don't think Valve is the worst offender in this category. They kept quiet for 4 years then this year surprised the hell out of everyone at E3 with Half Life 2 and said it would be here this fall. No one expected that. And had everything gone correctly, it would have. Then they got hacked, and went silent with their delays.

However, like OC Noob said, Gabe has been very up front with everyone at valve's fan site. He has kept his community in the loop with what is going on and they listen to feedback as much as they can. This hack was a huge blow to them and I'm sure it was quite embarrassing to them as well. It's just one of those things that happens.

Biggest offender would have to be id with Doom III. This game has been hyped for years now, and Carmack kept saying, we will not show it at E3 twice. Guess what, he already has, and it looks like it will have a third showing. We get 1 or 2 screenshots, then nothing for a year. Then we get a few more messed up (meaning creepy) screenshots and a short 2 minute video. I can't wait for the game, but Carmack is a guy that I don't think listens to his fans at all. He does what he does and leaves it at that. He has the take it or leave it attitude, and for the most part his stuff has been "take it".

In addition to Doom III, the Deus Ex sequel has been in the works for a while now? The last Deus Ex game came out how many years ago? It was a big success, but I think this is another example of how gaming companies tend to rest on their laurels.

Deus Ex 2 is coming out in like a month or two, maybe less. Their website was updated as well. thrAsher made a thread about it.

Yeah, I saw thrasher's thread; in fact I replied. But the problem, I think, is that the game has already had a terribly dissapointing development schedule and the fact that they're eventually going to finish it, really doesn't mitigate that fact. Moreover, I'm frankly skeptical of their claims that it'll be out that soon. I'm initially skeptical of all dev's release dates, espescially release dates for a game with a development history like this one.

It's funny, did release dates even exist before the internet?

Damn you're right! How does these threads always go off the original topic? I owe Merimac an apology. And I'll give it to him when he needs one.:D I apologize Hammy that's my bad. Just to stay on topic,............... what's the topic again?

Did gaming exist before the Internet? I mean it obviously did, but did it really? lol
