The Entertainment Software Charity (ESC) today announced that Microsoft has confirmed its commitment to the video and computer games industry's charity games pack initiative, ESCAPE. Microsoft will release a charity pack for the Xbox® games console on December 2nd with the support of leading publishers Electronic Arts, Eidos and Acclaim Entertainment.

The Xbox ESCAPE 2003 pack is the next stage of the charity's lead fundraising project this year, the proceeds of which go directly towards supporting disadvantaged young people in the UK. The UK computer and video games industry has already raised over £10m for young people's charities through collective initiatives since the 1980's.

The Xbox Escape 2003 special edition pack will comprise three titles: 'Medal of Honor FrontlineTM' from Electronic Arts, 'Hitman 2: Silent Assassin' from Eidos and 'Burnout' from Acclaim Entertainment.

Chris Lewis, Director, Home and Retail Division, Microsoft UK, said: "We're pleased to support ESC in this initiative. It's a great way for us to give back to the community and help bring a brighter future to young people in the UK, as well as provide great Xbox gaming experiences for a fantastic price to gamers."

Mark Strachan, CEO of the ESC, said: "Another incredible pack with three high profile titles and all for £29.99. The amount of goodwill and collaboration within the industry that goes into bringing these packs to market is truly astounding. It is wonderful to see so many companies pulling together for the benefit of others. "

The PS2 and Xbox Escape packs will be backed by consumer and trade advertising as well as PR support.

That sounds like a good idea to me. MS has some money they can give back, but why are they including Hitman 2 and Medal of Honor? I'm kinda surprised that they would include such violent, and in Hitman's case, sexual, games.
