My current Internet connection is 150K Cable, is this fast enough for Xbox Live?
I don't want to be lagging you guys out :(

Yeah it is that bad, I'm in the UK and it's the slowest cable broadband available :o
But it beats 56k Dial-Up...
Anyway, looks like I need to get upgraded to 512k

Hey, if that number is in kiloBYTES, he's actually doing okay. That would be about 1200kiloBITS, which is just about right.
If he's not working in kilobits, then yeah, that number sucks. You can just about get that with regular old ISDN technology.

Yea, i'd upgrade to 512K like you said. If you plan on hosting alot of people make sure you have a reasonable amount of upload also.

WELL ACTUALLY it is fast enough BUT hosting games will be pretty crap (although Ive heard that you can host a full game of PGR2) , you'll only be able to join them. 150k is good enough to use L!ve but unless you wanna do the whole L!ve experiance. Im not sure if youll find it acceptable for long if I was you Iwould upgrade to around 600k.:)
I am a noob yes but Ive looked into this.
"hosting is pants with 150k mine is 600k and I dont waste time hosting as I know there is an abundance of people out there with better connections. I say stick with your connection as it will run live perfectly, if you do get problems then upgrade ? I really dont think you will have problems as loads of people use that connection." "this comes from sumone who I consider to be a very reliable source.

I play the games on 56k modem, so im imagining that you would have a fine time. I've only trie dMechassault, PGR2, and Crimson Skies so far though. All work with voice chat fine, sometimes PGR skips during races, but thats rare.

How is that bad? Noone seemed to mind or complain when I had the 2 month trial so I wound up buying the year subscription. Was that a mistake?

You are supposed to have Broadband internet to use XBox Live. It is illegal to use it without a broadband subscription.

Are you sure its "Allegal" or do you mean microsoft strongly disaprove of you doing so.?:argue1:

They strongly disapprove using dial up because it lags down the experience for everyone. It's not illegal by letter of the law. But you aren't going to make any friends sneaking a narrowband connection onto Live.
You know what? He's lying I bet. I could have sworn that Live could detect either by way of programming on your xbox, or over the net your connection speed and bar you from installing Live if it doesn't qualify. Essentially, you would have to fall well below ISDN 128K. That was the bare minimum.
I have a hard time believing you can install live, and get onto live, and even get the dashboard update with a dial up and not have anyone notice.. Not even MS.
This is why Sony's online isn't so good. They allow dial up on a network with broadband. So the game network's architecture has to lower to accomodate the lowest speeds presented.
Live promised to be different, because the lowest dominator would still be broadband.

Actually, I believe that it is illegal. They have a set of rules that you sign a contract to. One of those rules (I believe, been a while since I signed up) is that you must have a broadband connection. If you don't follow the rules, you are breaching the contract. Which is, illegal.

He is full of Crap! I have never seen a 56k modem with a ethernet port. You can only go LIVE with an ethernet port. Plus the Xbox checks for connection speed before installing. If the other person has 129k down it will be plenty to play but do not try to host as it will cause everyone to lag in the room.

Damn if i only had the source to where i read this but a while back when live first came out. This one site had a step by step instruction faq on how to connect to xbox live using a 56k modem. It was extremly complex and i didnt understand any of it but it looked real. I have never witnessed or heard of anyone pulling it off while on live but i hope something bad happens if he really is crapping out other peoples games.

I too beleive that XBL tests your connection. The test might be pretty easy, and it could be. Even if they just tested ate 56K, most 56K modems can't reach that speed anyway (though they can in theory). XBL really should be BB only, lag is enough of a problem with BB!

No, you need 256k.

No, you need 256k.
Not true, as I posted above, it will work perfectly, as long as your not hosting. You only get slight lag on particularly complex (Im not sure what the technical term is) parts of a game, when theres a lot of textures and effects and action happening ect and the lag is minute.
I use it on Top Spin,RB63 and Capcom vs SNK and I always normally ask if Im lagging people and I have never ever had one complaint. :)

is it even worth looking into XBC or Live if I only have 128k dsl? I'm not sure yet if its up or down, I'll find out. I want to get live, but if I upgrade from 128k it will have to come out of my own pockets because my parents aren't gonna want to upgrade.

128k is fine, if you'd like I will give you a 2 month trial code. But you'd probably already have one if you had any xbox live games. Let me know.

I think I may take you up on that, if the offer still stands. If you wouldn't mind, would you please PM it to me? thanks:)
I've got a few XBL games, but I got them before the offers. :(
