I started getting a lot of disc read errors around the beginning of 2003, by June it was getting really annoying( I got XBOX in December 2001) So it lasted about 1.5 years. Thankfully I got the warrenty and brought it back and now I have a new good one!

got my xbox first week it came out and just recently had to get a new one. started to get noises when it tried to load and always getting disc may be damaged or dirty. but most of it was always scratching my disc's.

I've had mine since launch day. It never completely failed. I did get a couple DDE's, but I cleaned the lense with my friends Pioneer DVD cleaner, and they stopped. I guess you do have to do maintenance from time to time. The only weird thing I noticed that was on WWE Raw2, after about 2 hours of usage, and only on that game the sound jitters. But after a reboot, everything is ok.

But I've never had a mass failure.

well it looks like a majority are pretty good. The last xbox I had was failing so bad, it took 30 minutes to start game. Than say I was playing Halo, after every level I had to reboot system because of system lookup. Give the poll time. I suspect alot of people with Tomsons haven't voted yet. I might be wrong.

My Thompson has not been working for a few months. It takes around 30 seconds for it to read a game, and it overheats quickly. :(

I got mine on the laubch date, so about 2 years. Mine crapped out about 2 weeks ago, I sent for it to get fixed. Hopefully it will come soon so I can play GTA and XII (I won this at the XBL contest, ut it still hasn't arrived.)

Is Thompson the DVD drive the xbox came with on the first week? Because if it is, mine broke after less than a year.

My Thompson went out about a week after the one year warranty. It was slowly going out for about a month too.:cuss:

I bought mine on Monday, but as soon as it starts acting up, I'm not cleaning it or opening it, I'm taking it back asap.

It never really "lasted." I've had problems with it from the start--problems which have only gotten progressively worse.

For the amount of time I've had mine (I think 2 years), I haven't had one problem or one freeze up. I guess I'm either extremely lucky or my cleaning it every week is actually doing something.

Gave out just before the 2-year was up. Like a week or 10 days.

I need to ask him. I think he had it for awhile too.
You would figure an electronic's store would carry them.

I got my xbox on launch day and my Thompson died about 3 weeks ago...the DVD player progressively got worse as it also scratched the heck outta my games and DVDs
so I got a little more than 2 years use...nevertheless, I m a bit pissed because I spent $300 and didnt get my money's worth!!
just got DSL today...I ll NEVER advise anyone to stay with the Thompson...
I m resurrecting my xbox and Its all about the SAMSUNG SD 605T...cold thing about this is that this DVD player costs almost as much as a new xbox...but you get what you pay for...
That Thompson is a cheap piece of garbage...hope MS uses a better DVD for this current generation of Xboxes...

I got mine in late november/early december of the launch year. A few weeks ago it started giving me problems. However i play R63 and halo alot on there and it doesnt seem to mess up. I hope somehow it got better.
