woooo my xbox live arived safe and sound this morning, and i've bin playing with the headset on rs3, but it will be a few days, maybe a week b4 i can set it up.

anyways my pc and modem dont have an ethernet thingy on them. i dont have a router, and i dont think i will be getting one for at least 6-7months when my dad sets up his home office :o

so i need a way to connect my xbox to a usb port. is there a cably with usb one end and ethernet the other?

any pointers are helpfull. thanks advance.

ps. there is no urgent need cos i can get an adapter for around £20 wich plugs into the usb port then just plug ethernet into that. but i was wondering if there was a simpler CHEAPER method

pps. soon as i set up i'll kick ya ass at rs3, erm...honest

Yeah, the only thing out there is an adapter from usb to ethernet.

Have you tried to hook the USB cable up to your computer instead of the ethernet, thus giving you the ethernet for the Xbox? Try that and see if it'll work - not sure how the cable modems will work out there.

Also, just get a router - it makes life easier.

i think i'm now getting a router, cos my dad needs one for his laptop and stuff, so now i dont have to pay £20 for an adapter but it means i may have to wait a week or so before i can start fragging you lot!:p

Did you try what I said about the USB port going into the PC?

i dont get what you mean. my pc has no etyhernet ports and neither does my modem. so i dont understand what you mean.

Ahh, now I gotcha.

Ok, so once you get a router, realize that you're going to have to buy a NIC card for your computer anyways (they run cheap here for about $10 USD) - so make sure you get one of them also.

Sorry about the confusion, I just misread what you wrote.

Basically - you can't do anything until you get a router with your Xbox, but when you get the router, get a NIC card also, it'll give you the speed that you should be getting on your PC rather than a USB hookup.

Btw, the NIC card - 10/100 is what you want for the speed setup on it.
