This is a great read to quall all your thoughts about Bungie hiding the release date from us, and proving that when they know it, they will release it.
Duty Now For The Future (http://www.bungie.net/perlbin/blam.pl?file=/site/0/site/bnet/soapbox/soapbox96_10.html) from Matt Soell in 1996.
It's kind of long but you don't have to read all of it to get the idea.
I'm just posting to prove my, and other people's statements about Bungie's ways. I think this article will keep the spam out if the right people see it before their cursor jumps to the SUBMIT button.

I love how they use the excuse that the boxes aren't done :)
Those retailers are also pretty tricky when a release date comes and goes for games, and the games aren't out. "We are sold out, check back in two weeks."
Tricky, tricky...

I finally got the time to sit down and read the whole thing (as a Bungie fan/advocate) I felt obligated to do so.
Everything they said in there is exactly what I've been trying to tell people for the last 4 months. I'll say "Hey man, Halo 2 is gonna be awesome, eh?" Then I hear the obligatory "the guy at EB told me an MS exec told him they weren't gonna be done till June or July." I try to convince them that Bungie DOES NOT GIVE RELEASE DATES, but they aren't convinced and I don't care. Even the publisher of this game (*cough*MS*cough*) has March 04 listed as the potential release date on their site.
I want to print this out and highlight the very important middle portion so that everyone can see I'm not lying.
Now those of you who read our last Soapbox know that these places are REQUIRED BY LAW to give release dates for the products they pre-sell. Even if the bad evil people at Bungie Software choose not to provide a release date, these poor souls are legally obliged to tell the customer when the software will ship. This law has resulted in the creation of an industry-standard phrase, "Two Weeks" (as in "Sorry, that title is currently out of stock, but we're expecting a shipment in two weeks...." Ring any bells?) If the title hasn't actually been released 14 days later, the mail-order places and stores can just say "Oh, the publisher pushed back the release date. We're expecting a shipment in two weeks." This process is repeated until the software actually ships.

I ignore release dates altogether. It doesn't matter how soon you get the game but eventually you'll get your hands on it. Stupid EB Games.... they should be outlawed from doing that lol :cuss:

I think the best was a kid at school (PSU) told me that he knew a dude at Gamestop that told him he gets "calls from MS execs almost daily about Halo 2, and they said it won't be released till July."
I was like, "ok, sure dude, but Bungie doesn't give release dates so..." and walked away.
