The Prophet is one of the new Covenent creatures we will face in Halo 2:
Prophet (http://halo.ogresnet.com/screenshots/h2_game_screens/Prophet_up_close)
What do you guys think the role of the Prophet will be?
Or do you already have a source that confirms its role?
I think the prophet will be along the lines of a pscychokinetic(sp?) foe, rather than one that uses brute strength. These seem like they would be figureheads/diplomats/dictators for the covenent.

I think it will fight back by pooping in its hand and throwing the poop at you. It doesn't sound like much but I can assure you it is most unpleasant.
I seriously don't think you'll be fighting them too much. On that note, does anyone know if the engineer creatures (from First Strike) will be in the game?

Moose, haven't you read the books? Perused the Halo fansites? Read the periodicals?
Prophets and Elites formed the Covenant. Prophets are the political/religious leaders, and Elites are the military leaders. Prophets will each have a unique headdress, and also a unique attack (yes you have to fight them). They are said to have evolved on the planet once occupied by the Forerunner, which is where the technology came from, and why they are so fanatically devoted to the "Gods."
That's most of what I remember from my different sources, and yes, it is all true.
In Halo 2 the story will reveal the Prophets/Elites reasoning for assault and battery on the human race, so I can't wait!

So far for the new ones there are the Engineers (they don't harm you, they just like to fix stuff), Brutes (supposedly stronger then hunters and their guns shoot grenade type objects and have a blade on their gun), and the prophets (like SWFM said they lead the religous side of the covenant). And I wouldn't be suprised if there was a new species of Flood. Also, have any of you guys wondered if the flood will take over animals? That would be weird... An elephant taken over by the Flood.:watchout:

I looked around and really couldn't find much, and no I haven't read the books quite yet, but I plan on getting them and reading them before Halo 2, much of what I know is from reading, and I didn't really know anything about the prophet, but figured as much as you said.
Also why I asked off the bat:
Or do you have a source that confirms it?
Should've added "because I really have no clue", I guess.

The Library was like that because Bungie didn't have much time to finish the game before the Xbox was launched.
If you think about it, Bungie basically had a year to convert everything over to Xbox format and create new content to complete the game. A year is not a lot of time for something like that, so Bungie did an excellent job with the time given.

Exactly! I agree. MS should have just given them more time but they wanted it as a launch title so that's what it was.

You got that backwards. The Brute will be incredibly difficult to take down in combat (the AI was absent in the E3 demo). There is no indication of how hard the Prophets will be to kill available to the public.
For the Brute, think a cross between a Rhino and a Gorilla, and is alot faster than an Elite (and much stronger).

You might fear the Flood even more after what I'm about to tell you :)
The Flood in Halo were supposed to have their own AI that made them more tactical then run at you and swing (or shoot), but Bungie ran out of development time. This would have made the Flood a LOT more fun to fight. But alas they are just moving targets.
If Bungie hasn't decided already (I'm sure they have), then the Flood in Halo 2 might/might not have smart AI as intended (better now for Halo 2). So, expect to fight the Flood with completely revised tactics, because I'm sure Bungie will want Halo 2 to be everything Halo was supposed to be.

I'd say they must have telekenetic or some kind of divine power. I mean human prophets were said to have "powers" why not the fanatical Covenant? If I'm wrong then sorry. :( . I've only read the Fall of Reach and need to read the rest. :yikes:
Although probably done to death I will post pics of the Prophets because they look so sweet.

You do not know that. How do you know if it's just the prophets making this up driving the Covenant to destroy the human race. What I'm trying to point out here, is that there are many things that can be different then what they appear to be at first.

My brother has bought the books but I've never read then so I apologise if these are ridiculous questions. Will there be another Halo, if not will they use the broken bits from the original Halo as a battle ground or something? I personally think that the Prophets will not have these telekinetic powers, sticking to realism. If you look closer at that 'making of' trailer you can see the master chief riding on the Prophet's levitating chair. The holes on the sides are presumbly some sort of weapons, or RPG.
I've notice that one of you mentioned that the Prophets will be powerul than the Brutes. I have come to believe this, what if the Prophets are much powerful than the Brutes? I mean they might look like they're in a 'wheel' chair but how does anyone know what lies beneath/behind the chair. Powers of destructive force maybe.

If you paid attention during the opening cinema for Two Betrayals you would have heard Guilty Spark say: "This installation has a maximum effective pulse radius of 25,000 light years. But, once the others follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life." 343 also refers to the Halo as Installation 04.
In the X-Factor (http://halo.bungie.org/misc/bungiefactormirrors.html) video on Halo 2, Jamie Griesemer says they are going to have huge levels on the wreckage of previous Halos.
I personally think that the Prophets will not have these telekinetic powers, sticking to realism.
In Halo: First Strike, a Prophet levitates an object into his hands from a Brute's hands. I will say no more so I don't spoil the book for anyone.

Is it just me or does anyone else here have the urge to just snipe that thing in the head. What would be awesome is if that thing is speaking to the covenant and there is a large group. You just shoot the thing then throw a ton of nades down there. I was just thinking bout how you can shoot out lights like in splinter cell to make yourself unseen.

I am guessing that there won't be too many combat encounters with Prophets because they are the highest ranked Covenant species. They will be governing their homeworld and commanding battles from flagships, not on the ground fighting human scum. But that is just my guess!

The Prophets most likely won't be bosses. Halo didn't have bosses in it, and the Spartan's mission is to capture a Prophet and negotiate peace (Fall of Reach). Also, in Halo 2 there is a high possibility that we will see the Covenant social structure disintegrate. I can only hope!

The Prophets seem like they will be a boss similar to 343GS, except maybe they will use some weapons themselves. They appear very similar, both levitate, both command enemies, both seem harmless(physically) so why wouldn't they provide similar roles.
And as for that video of the MC sitting in the prophets chair(which I haven't seen), keep in mind that one of the earlier videos of Halo showed the MC using a light sword. Most likely it's just something from the video, not something that will be in game.

Why are you talking about bosses? Halo has no bosses.
Prophets will attack, each with a unique attack and headdress.
The video with MC wielding the plasma-sword is from the Halo Mac/PC E3 video in 2000, before they scrapped everything.

I would consider 343GS a boss, even though you don't directley fight him. When I saw the Prophets I thought they would be a similar sort of boss(maybe with some attack though).
I really doubt you get to use a prophets platform, it would look to odd.
PS. I know it was from the Mac version, I was just trying to make a point of the pre-video things not always happening in the full version.
