I was planing picking up an xbox system, and a few games
on my visit to the States next week, (I'm in Australia)

My question is; Is the software region coded, or anything
similar? - I would hate if after local release here (Sydney)
I couldn't but local software.

Also, What about DVD Playback? Does anybody know if
that's hardwired in a US Xbox, or is that software local
to where you buy it (I.e/ DVD region 1 for USA DVD Kit, But
Region 4 DVD For Australian DVD Kit) Hope that makes sense!

And while I'm on a roll... :)
Can you buy a VGA Adaptor, so I could use the Xbox on my
projection system (true VGA Output, not a box that coverts
a video signal into a pc compatable RGB colorspace)

Ok, sorry for all that, but let the guru's begin :)

xbox is not region coded for games but i don't know about dvd's, you have to buy a contoller to play dvd's on the xbox. Don't ever use a game on a projection system it will burn the screen

The Xbox is coded as per NTSC or PAL... if your contry is NTSC, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work out, but if it's a PAL, it wouldn't work with an NTSC xbox...

Other then that, I don't know, DVD playback is prob region coded too.

Dude, March 14th is coming up really soon. I recommend just waiting it out...you wouldn't want to be stuck importing games from the US so you can play them in Australia. But, while you are up here, make sure you get enough playing time :D

i agree hold off until it is released there, i could have sworn i read in the xbox manual or in the DVD playback kit that it will only work with region 1 DVD's and it said even then it may experience problems, dont know about games
