Ok this is a personal opinion but here we go... First off dont get me wrong I love the GTA series and alomost all "M" rated games but I saw this ad for the new resident veil which had a guy pinned to a wall slowing cuttin into some guys neck with a chainsaw.! I think this is gettin a little too violent. I mean SOCOM or Rainbow SIx 3 gets the same rating as this game(M). I think they should make a more agressive M rating. Not the Adult Only but a new one! I mean Rainbow Six 3 isnt half as bloody as some of these new games and I think they should put it at like a high teen rating! What do you guys think?

While I understand where your comming from, its just the point that 95% of adults can handle a video game with some heavy gore, as opposed to a 13yr old seeing some blood I guess. And 13yr olds are more impressionable than adults (sane adults) as well. Having a first person game with a gun shooting up some guys can cause quite a stir when the young ones are playing. I am 15 years old, and nothing really bothers me. It's just the point that the rating mean there is an amount of violence thats just too much for teens (not most, but still). A guy getting his head chopped off is roughly the same to an adult as a guy getting shot through the face with just some blood. It adds an impression upon a 13 year old sometimes. I don't see any reason in a new rating system, as long as they put "Mature Sexual Content, Intense Violence, Intense Language, etc." It's all the same to me. I personally agree with the rating system, and I think they are doing a fine job.

I hear you loud and clear! Some of these games are just plain sick. However, I think the M rating is sufficient. Just like an R rated movie. Some are worse than others.

But, now that I think of it…the games are, in my opinion, more influential on the youth do to the fact that the player is actually acting out the behavior. At least, in a movie, it is only being viewed and not acted out in any way by the viewer. Hmmmm, very interesting…I’ll have to give this some more thought.

The rating systems fine.Tims right though video games interactivety does have a greater immersion factor than other media.loony tunes might influence little Bobby to blow up little suzie.Black Sabbath might turn your kids into satan worshipers, and I shudder to think of Moe,Larry&Curly's influence. But seriously folks...the responsibility falls to the parents.DAD : "Whatcha doin Son?" Son : 'Stealin cars & decapitating Ho's" DAD : 'OK, but remember to do your homework"

"M" in another way to translate it, just more tougher than "T''. :)

Being 28, when I want a game, I just go out and buy it. E - M...bring it on :D Honestly, I can't remember the last time I looked at a game's rating.

I think the rating system is fine, the problem is most adults who are parents want to blame someone or something else for the piss poor job their doing.

I have 2 kids and a 3rd on the way, we all play games, but I know what my kids play, and If i'm not sure of a "T" game, which sometimes are marginal, I go rent it and find out for myself.

You can say the same thing for violence in Music, Movies, etc...Be a responsible parent.

I want to make the choice, not a rating system.

I think M is fine, but we need another rank between T and M. Here's the logic: Halo and GTA have vastly different levels of graphic content, yet they have the same rank. GTA should have an M and Halo should have something between T and M. That's what the ESRB ought to do.

I dont know about comparing those two games for this topic. I mean Halo is more "guttier" than GTA

Gore, violence, sex etc. all sell games. And I have no problem with that, and most teens don't either. And the idea that violence in video games drives teens to kill is b.s. Adults just need somethign to blame for the kids actions, they just can't blame the kids themselves.

If the rating system was actually enforced by rental businesses and retailers, there would be no problems at all. I don't think Halo is quite that violent, but since it involves minimal blood and shooting, that makes it M. Now, if you are under 17+ you aren't allowed in any R rated movie, whether its House of 1000 Corpses or Lost in Translation, same goes for games.

I could care less about either, I'm 19.

there is the Ao (adults only) rating....but I haven't seen a game that has it.

Only thing with AO is porn and ?

I don't really pay attention to the rating systems. I think the people that blame video games  for inspiration are just trying to find an excuse to give to their shrink in court to get out of killing someone who owed them drug money, etc.

when i was 18 or 19, me and my sister (she's 4 years younger) would go to all the r rated movies we wanted to. I'd just have her go inside or wait off to the side and i'd buy 2 tickets, then when she saw i was done, she'd discretely head my direction (she's like 14 or 15 at this time) and we'd go watch some violent ass movies....hehe (this was right around the time they started cracking down in theaters - about 7 years ago)

Personally, I wish there was more of it! I'm still waiting for a real game to get released where it'll be all twisted, and provocative.
Max Payne 2 did a good job. But me and my new girlfriend, she's way into Anime, would totally dig a game not only with more gore, but some sexuality. Like a game where some Riskay! cutscene will be included.
Like Max payne on X and speed together at the same time in the middle of an org-y! THat I'd buy!
Or even something less crazy, but still like that. I mean, we'd still be playing DOA's Beach Volleyball game if it let us see them in the shower rooms afterwords!
How's this actually:
Action Game, like Starship Troopers, where there's a shower scene! It'd be like HALO, only with some unlockable, sweet cut scenes.
Or a First Person Shooter where our character isn't a virgin.
I could see it already.
Yay! Harray the day!
