View Full Version : Quote of microsoft CEO on halo 3....

Yes, I know that this IS a ceo of MICROSOFT, and microsoft isn't bungie, but microsoft does own bungie. So bungie = microsofts biotch.

That Ballmer - he's a card
Bizarre find by Richard Watkins - in a speech Steve Ballmer made last fall at the Gartner Fall Symposium 2003 (it was the Microsoft Office System 2003 Launch), he said
We're working on the next version -- I hate to tell you this confidentially but I'll have to swear you to secrecy now -- we're working on the next version of Xbox right now and we're working on Halo 2 and Halo 3, the two newest versions of the game.
Now - remember, this is Microsoft's CEO; he probably doesn't spend a lot of time keeping track of projects that are several years out. And Bungie themselves have said that it's not certain that there will even BE a Halo 3 yet. And even if they WERE planning on a Halo 3, the chances that they were already into development on it last October (when the vast majority of the office was working on Halo 2, and the few remaining people were dealing with the very recent release of Halo PC and the problems it had at launch) are pretty slim. Given all this, the usual 'if it doesn't come from Bungie, don't believe it' caveats apply here... but it is interesting that Ballmer would make a statement like that at all. (Louis Wu 16:01:56
I think it is 95% likley, microsoft is all about buisness, and nothing would sell xbox 2 like halo 3. Although with the time span right now, bungie would be a little rushed on this one,.

Halo 3 might come out? Wow, I wouldn't think that at all. After all Halo isn't a popular game.

Uh oh, Lotec...this is a Halo 2 forum...not a Halo 3 forum....
:D
But seriously...That would be perfect for the launch of XBox 2....Halo 3 would sell consoles like no other...especially if Halo 3 pushed the hardware of the new console to it's limits.

But with the amount of time they are going to have if Xbox2 ships in the end of 2005, I don't think they will be able to optomize it like they are with the xbox. But none the less, even if they don't the xbox 2 graphics will look much better than halo 2, I hope.

I don't think there is any point in wondering about Halo 3 when the sequel to the first isn't going to be out until September (mark my word).
I guess Bungie hired some people to work on a threequel and transfered the people who worked on the sequel that they don't need anymore. But like I said, not much point in worrying about it right now.
lotec, you got it backwards. Microsoft is Bungie's *****, because Microsoft is counting on Bungie to make great games. Microsoft just lets Bungie do their thing because they know that Bungie just cares about making great games. In the long run, Bungie is in it for the fans. That's why they make games with complex stories, because they know that those kinds of games have longer lifespans after they are released. Just look at Halo. It's been 2 1/2 years since it was released and people (like me) are still pouring over the story and trying to make sense of things, and drooling at the rich background.
If Bungie cared about money, Halo 2 would have been out last Christmas. But they care about the game, that's why it will be out in September (mark my words again).

For fun :D, plus it dictates what goes on in halo 2.
The relationship is more mutual i guess, microsoft needs bungie, and bungie needs microsoft, a little. But microsoft does own them, so they can do as they please with them.

No. Microsoft paid a large sum of money for us; in return they got ownership of the company. That's really all the detail that’s relevant.
Eh???
I totaly understand what your saying and where your coming from, but wasn't microsoft that rushed halo for the xbox release date?

Zero...how are you so sure about September being the month that Halo 2 comes out?
I was at Game Crazy and I thought I would humor myself and ask them when Halo 2 is coming out...they said "September 3rd" is what they have in their database. Does this have any merit? Of course, let's pretend that Halo 2 doesn't get delayed a week or what not.

I remember reading a while ago, that one of the things Bungie ultimately wanted to do, whether it's this installment or the one after, was to have an online enabled level (that is part of the story) where a whole army of individually controlled MCs did battle against an army of covenant (or whomever).
While I'm sure that won't be possible in this installment, just the thought of a Normandy type engagement--jumping from dropships head first into a chaotic malaise with only your guns and your brothers to protect you--really starts the drool machine. Of course, dreaming about things that are currently impossible is a sure fire way to be dissapointed in part 2.

That would make for one bad-ass fight...
But it would be kinda tricky, you wanna play at 4am and only 50 other people are there, or you play at 4pm and there are hundreds, in theory it would be so awsome, but it would be hard to execute. Maybe a little capable on xbox 2.
For the grand fanaly i want hundred/ thousands of marines on a HUGE battle field.

Right now, all I care about is Halo 2. If Bungie wants to make a Halo 3, thats fine by, but it's not coming out anytime soon (let alone being confirmed). I'd rather continue to play Halo 1, wait for Halo 2, and after Halo 2 is played out (another 3 years), then we'll see about a 3rd Halo.

Ah, gotcha...when you said "mark my words", it almost sounded like you had some insider information or something.
If I was going to make a wild hunch, I would guess November 15th, 2004 only because it would be the 3 year anniversary of the first Halo being launched with the XBox.
Again, just a wild guess :)

Nov. 15 is plausible, but I think it is a little TOO close to Christmas, because you hype up Christmas release games around Thanksgiving.
But eh, your guess is as good as mine!

With what everyone is saying xbox 2 would release in fall of 2005, that would be about the same amount of time as the original halo, and xbox 2 could launch later.
Not to mention, the main core designers don't have to sit and watch people play it, they could be in the starting phase of designing the new engine now.

They already had the hardest parts of Halo finished when they got bought by Microsoft. It was just a matter of porting geometry etc. and adding in the critical elements. But they didn't have the final hardware specs so they had to guess. Don't assume it will take a year to make Halo 3 (IF they do). I don't think anyone should get hyped for the threequel right now. It's just too far away right now.

Just wait until after Halo 2 is out. It is too early for anyone to make that kind of judgment.

Bungie won't rush it unless they want it to be a launch title for Xbox 2. And as far as we know, it could or it couldn't. ;)

Thats exactly what I was getting at. It's not like they can't do it in a shorter amount of time, but i am sure they would want more. If it is a launch title i think they have a few people starting to shift to halo 3.

That is dumb (Halo 3 isn't even confirmed yet by Bungie), because Halo 2 isn't out and you have no idea what will happen in it. So, Halo 3 should be non-objective until you play Halo 2.
What you're saying is like, "I can't wait for Return of the Jedi!" when Empire Strikes Back won't be out for another 7 months.
Just something to think about. ;)

Think of it this way, if we all sit here thinking about part three, then we can stop torturing ourselves by thinking about Halo 2, whose imminent release is at that frustrating, "far away, but not too far" stage.

Heh, seeing as how i'm not bored/sick of Halo 1 yet, I don't see me being sick of Halo 2 for about 2 or 3 years.
I, personally, can wait for Halo 2, I know it will come out when it comes out, and Halo 3...well...maybe, but we're gonna have to wait for Halo 2 first. It would be like reading Fellowship, skipping Two Towers, and going straight for Return of the King, without the middle there can be no end, if in fact, Halo 2 is a middle and not the end.
