As I was playing the single player last night, I noticed that I was in the pitch black, but still able to see EVERYTHING.

I adjusted my brightness to make it look more realistic, forcing me to use my nightvision just to see 1 foot infront of me. I prefer to play this way, the game just looks and feels better.

Do you think people online will jack up their brightness to see in the dark? I think that might ruin the experience as a whole.

Yea, I noticed this when playing last week and it was a problem, but if you get good enough hidding spots/techniques, they can't see you for long. The mercs will have the advantage with that, but if the brightness is up too high, it'll hurt their other visions.

Doesn't everyone use their brightness to their advantage sometimes in other games? Like GR?

LOL - my boss tried to do that at my old job when we were playing and I caught him using it - never did it again and he could never get the same amount of kills either.

I don't remember Splinter Cell being so dark. The multiplayer is very dark, I noticed last night I could be running from a merc and just dip into a shadow in the corner and they would run right past me. I guess that means they didn't jack their brightness up.

This potientally could be a huge problem. I guess just find some good hiding spots and learn to blend into the enviroment..

You're right. People do try to use any trick they can to give them the advantage in games online and turning the brightness up is one you can't really do much about. There's no way of policing it I guess. Well, other than send spies round to watch them playing in their houses but that is seedy, very expensive (I would imagine) and presumably illegal.

It's terrible the way people will do things like this to give them an unfair advantage over others. I can't understand it myself. I know I'm not good at games but why does it matter? I mean, how can you get any feelings of happiness doing well if you're cheating to do so in a game? People seem to take the competitive element of games far too seriously. Really, who cares if they win or lose so long as everyone's having fun playing. There's no point in getting stressed about gaming, It should be something to relieve stress.

I'm sure people have written all that before and I'm rambling rather a lot now. Sorry about that.

Brightness has always been a factor in gaming... also just overall TV Quality.. and a big screen HDTV has a clear advantage over some old pos 25 incher.... just visually now everyone forever had taken it further... by doing that you defeat the purpose of the game.

EDITED: I know though in a stable environment like at the Toronto Ironsides debut it was fantastic in every gaming avenue.

Oh man...old school gamer here huh? Yeah, I remember that too. I think the darkness provides a cool element to the game though. Just wish everyone would play without the adjustments.

I completely agree. I don't play games quite as good on a tube when compared to my HDTV. Images are more clear, colors are brighter, and everything is more three dimensional.

Honestly, once you go HDTV, you'll never go back. Don't get me wrong, I'll play on a tube if I'm at someone else's house at a System Link party or whatnot...but, I feel a little crippled because things are tougher to see.

i think for future reference....if u come across a dilemma like this, dont put it onto a forum...because i would have never thaught of turning up the brightness, if i wanted to cheat u just gave a me a great idea....dont announce things, and maybe only a select few will be ***s bout it.;)

I never thought of jacking up your brightness. Reminds me of how the Suffering wants you to turn down your brightness. Whats with games now a days requiring TV setting adjustments.

My TV is naturally dark, so I decided to put the brightness all the way up. It's still extremely dark. If someone turned the brightness all the way up they would blind themselves with the NV and HV googles. It would be stupid.

Yes its equal opportunity but whats the point of the game if you do it. The Game as meant to be dark.

However, think about this....if you suspect someone is pulling this doo-doo on ya, just pop off a flash bang. I bet that would REALLY mess with their heads. Ultra bright TV....lol

That's why I only play in rooms with my friends. :)

I think I might have come across someone doing this earlier today. I swear to god the guy (Merc) seemed to find me even in the darkest of area. Even if I was just sitting there with no NV or HV on he would almost instantly home right in on me. I found it very strange. I hate public rooms.
