View Full Version : Does anyone here really think Iraq is/was better off without us?

Look, to preface this, it has nothing to do with going to war. That was a wholly separate issue. This thread only deals with the following:

Does anyone sincerely believe Iraq was better before America came? Does anyone sincerely believe Iraq would be better if America left?

If you are angry about Fallujah attacks, have you read anything about the area that isn't from mainstream media? Do you understand that those are Sunnis, not Shiites? Do you understand the difference between Sunnis and Shiites? Also, do you understand that the Shiites would treat the Sunnis no better if they had control?

Do any of you really buy into the far left propaganda that Iraqi civilians don't want us there? If so, do you base it off Sunni protests? If not, can you back up the argument that the average Shiite is worse off? For that matter, can you back up the argument that the average Sunni is worse off?

Do you buy into the Communist-published propaganda that over half of the population is unemployed? Did you stop to think that half the population may have been unemployed under Saddam's rule?

Or civil infrastructure, for that matter. Do you believe that power and other facilities are completely in ruin? Or are you aware that not only are they in place, but even in the worst city, Fallujah, high speed internet is being built citywide?

Just some questions for you to think about.

Iraq would be wiped out if we weren't there...atleast the Sunnis would. The irony of the entire thing is that we are protecting the Sunnis from the Shiites, however, the Sunnis want to see every American dead. Go figure?!

The only reason the Shiites haven't slain the Sunnis is because we are there and the Shiites support American efforts...same with the Kurds.

By the way, Sodacider...I was in Tacoma all week this week and will be in Tacoma all of next week. What part of T-Town are you in?

In general Iraq is much better off. Although some people still remain hostile. Recent polls have shown majority of Iraqi's are starting to look to the future, and expect this year to be a good year.

for me its sad to say that i think, even with the established democracy there, if we pull out or not, i dont see the domocracy lasting a long time. there has been fighting there for years and years and i think there always will be.
historically democracies dont last long.

historically democracies dont last long.

it doesn't help that, historically, they haven't been around long enough to last long. In a 'historical' sense, the U.S. hasn't lasted long, but that doesn't mean it's going to fall apart tomorrow, either.
