View Full Version : Giving marines orders?

Im not talking about making H2 a squad based shooter, but would you like the ability to tell marines where to go in certain situations? Like, you just fought a huge battle, and you have maybe 7 or 8 marines left, and a few warthogs. They could ask you where you want them to go, or tell them to come with you and help defend you. The idea of this is if you have low health and no packets around, you could tell them to come with you and defend you and keep you alive, or tell them to take an opposite route and get the covenants attention, allowing you to sneek in behind and take out the covenant from behind them.Or if you want neither, tell cortona to order a dropship to come and pick them up, and drop them off later if you need them. I don't want Halo 2 to be it's main focus on this, but to me it would be a cool addition for every other level or so. Your thoughts?

Great suggestion dude. And hey you never know. That would be great to get the Marines to be your decoy or to get em all up in a warthog and mess up the covies, either way, i'm sure the marine's will do alot of that based on their own "AI INSTINCT". But again, great points/suggestions.

So far, Bungie hasn't really hinted at anything "squad based" as far as I know, Zero Flaw would be better suited to answer your question. I thought the marine AI in Halo 1 was pretty good. Except I would of liked them to be a bit smarter when you bump up the difficulty.

Steve Campbell of http://forerunners.org played some Halo 2 at the Gearbox office in Plano, TX. He said that the Marines will be "Incredibly interactive," with 'Incredibly' being an understatement.
Also, there are different types of Marines this time, and if one of them dies, the game will balance it out by changing a more numerous Marine type into the least numerous behind your back. (Bungie is at least toying with the idea anyways)
Expect the combat with Marines to be FAR more involved.

I do believe that in a recent issue of OXM (2 or 3 months ago maybe?) there was an interview with a Bungie guy. Im pretty sure there was some hinting towards being able to order marines around. Im like 98% sure on this.

Personally I like the feel of being just another grunt when the marines go charging across the beach. It adds a bit of incertainty to the outcome.

Applicable advice from a weathered old friend:
Instead of claiming something such as what you mentioned. Look it up where you believe you found it, then post with the information you retrieved pertaining to what you were perusing for. Your '98% sure' could be equal to my '7%' sure, therefore it is necessary to provide backup information to validate the manner in which you post.
After saying that, I will encourage you to dig forth into the fountain of knowledge and uncover the information I requested you seek. I await your return and the valueables accompanying you.
That way I don't have to go look myself to find out what you are talking about! ;)

Thats what I love about Call of Duty, you're just "another soldier", but I think everyone in Halo's universe pretty much has/had the idea that MC is pretty superior all around. I mean come on, he's got the cool bump-mapped armor, that makes him 1337 right there!

Yeah, which is why he doesn't fight with Marine's when he has a choice. His Spartan friends are much better trained than the expendable common Marine. The ODST thing will change that though, so expect some excellent teamwork between the Marines without any assistance from you, because you have your own mission!

MC hates losing men, too, so don't expect to use marines as cannon fodder. But I definately agree, they should amp up the marine's abilities when you play heroic or legendary. Not just to help, but because it feels to cool to have guys fighting along side you.

I would like to see different types of marines, not just the same machine gun using guy. Maybe some with different body armor and maybe the occasional nut job that goes crazy and charges head first into battle all alone. O.o
