I decided this deserved a new thread so more people could see it:
Well, I read that some people didn't like the Flood because they were dumb and just ran at you, while the Covenant had strategy and cunning. I got something to say that might just change your opinion REAL quick. ;)
Taken from THIS (http://nikon.bungie.org/pressscans/edge_equip.2003/6.jpg) magazine scan:
(About the invisi-Flood in the Maw armory) "I like him because he indicates that the Flood are intelligent, and know how to use alien equipment, and aren't just dumb alien monsters." Which is a surprise. Playing Halo gives the impression that The Flood are dim automatons, shotgun fodder whose biggest strength is their movement in relentless straight lines and overwhelming numbers.
"The Flood AI was originally intended to be every bit as complicated as the Covenant, but we ran out of time implementing behaviours and they ended up being a lot simpler and straight forward," Griesemer explains.
"We never intended them to take cover or throw grenades, but we didn't get a chance to develop all of the characteristics of the Flood that was going to make them not only different and very interesting to fight."
Which puts Bungie in a sticky situation for Halo 2. Does it implement its intended artificial-intelligence routines, or does it keep the Flood deliberately handicapped because that's what players have now become used to? All Griesemer will say is: "the AI in Halo 2 is going to be much improved."

I got money that says they make The Flood smart in Halo 2. ;)

Nice post/find!
I hope they make it smart, just because somthing is bad in one game dosn't mean it has to be bad in all of them.
I just read that article! Are there pictures of the enginers or prophets from halo 1???\
And where did they have the prophets?

If you use your imagination, you can spot where the Prophets had an influence in the courses of action throughout the game. The Prophets look the same.

Personally, I think all people are going to treat Halo 2 as a different game than Halo...a game in itself to appreciate rather than just a sequel. Therefore, I think they should boost up the A.I. regarding the Flood.

It would be uber crazy if those little brain crab thingies doged grenades or something like that. Although, the flood have strength in numbers. It would be more like a resident evil game if the flood came to earth. :D

I really didn't like the flood in Halo, they weren't interesting to look at or fight. Personally I would have rather had a third faction of aliens instead of zombies. Or if the flood have to be there just get rid of those damn little head things, they were quite retarded.

zero flaw, I don't have an imagination... or at least not a good one... can i borrow yours??? I can't think of their infuence.
And maximus is 100% right, boost the A.I.

lotec, the Covenant were digging into Halo (T&R anyone? Notice the construction lamps on the pathways, and the equipment boxes?) in search of any artifacts they could find.
In Halo: The Flood, there was an unnamed Prophet that warned against damaging Halo 04 when firing on the Pillar of Autumn. So there was at least one Prophet in control of the Covenant forces on Halo 04.
While I have no idea exactly what the Prophet(s) was(were) up to, I am sure he(they) was(were) one step ahead of you the whole time, leading the Covenant to the Control Room.

Oh  .... thanks!
I wonder how much longer this game will be, now that they will have time for prophets and smart flood and many other things.

lotec i think halo 2 is going to be at least twice as long because it will take sopposily(somehow zero flaw is going to prove me wrong) take place on a moon base, earth, and the covenents home planet(acording to halo.bungie.org or a site like that there are multiple home worlds of the covenent and the only true covenent are elites an profits the rest are slaves or somthin)
oh yeah the flood are are ok they help the halo story but i dont like fighting them they never stop coming and im pretty sure they are the only enimeis that will follow you through a whole level

I hated the Flood, to me, they just weren't as fun to battle as the Covenant. However, I always thought of the Flood as lumbering zombies, and the threat was not in the individual Flood creature, but in the sheer magnitude of the Flood (like the original Dawn of the Dead). So I dunno, smart zombies just seems weird to me, but I'm sure that whatever decision the developers will be for the best in the long run. :)

thats a good article, I first saw it about a year ago I guess, maybe not quite that long ago.
While I have no idea exactly what the Prophet(s) was(were) up to, I am sure he(they) was(were) one step ahead of you the whole time, leading the Covenant to the Control Room.
I don't think that there were any prophets even on Halo, there was supposed to be 1 onboard the Truth and Reconciliation, which wasn't in the game, only in the book, but I don't think the prophets have or ever will engage you on the ground.
I also got the impression that they thought that they thought that Halo was a gigantic weapon left for them by the Forerunners from both the books and the game, which they were kinda right, kinda wrong.

I didn't say that there were Prophets in the game (physically), just that they directed the course of action for the Covenant throughout the story.

I see what you are saying, but I think that the prophets just sat back in the ship while they delegated the objectives to elites, who are more than capable of following the orders, and if they failed, the prophets simply killed them like the one in Halo: The Flood. They did dictate the course of action, but weren't directly involved in the physical exploration of Halo. I see what you are saying though.

I hate the flood. I hate the brains. I hate the fat exploding ones. And I hate all the rest of em.
Which is why they need to be in Halo 2! So I can blow their heads off ;)

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought they killed the Flood though.

The Flood aren't just on Halo. ;)

yea, there are other ring-worlds like Halo, we have to assume that that is where the rest of the flood come from...
does anyone else realize how screwed humankind is if both the covenant and the flood find earth. I mean we were getting stomped when it was just the covenant and that was before they found earth.

the flood weren't that fun to play against but it was fun to watch them fight the covenant especially hunters :D

the only thing that was challenging about them was their extreme numbers, well that and the fact that they were so fast, and that they went kamakazi on you, well, and that they jumped like ninjas on speed, oh and that their melees hurt like hell, and that they jumped out of nowhere and scared the crap out of me, besides that they were push-overs. :D Oh and did I mention you had to make extra-sure they were dead. :D

Yeah in the first Halo I let flood and covenant fight each other and then id come in and kill all the surviving weak.. That was a big part in some levels on legendary.. lolz

I just wanna add that I don't really want to see the Flood smart, mainly because I think Halo shaped their characteristics. The way I see it, their dumb. And they know it.
It'll just seem weird on Halo 2 encountering the flood and instead of them surrounding, outnumbering, annoying, launching themsevles into grenades and doing other dumbass things, thier hiding behind ghosts, sneakily rolling frags behind me and actualy thinking about wether their rocket shots are going to rebound into their face. It just won't feel like flood.
What I'd like to see is the Flood charecters from Halo One kept as stupid, and then some new form of flood with sense.
Anyways, just my thoughts.. :D

The flood couldn't have been that stupid, they were rebuilding an interstellar cruiser.

I know what you mean. The name "flood" went along w/ their tactics, or lack thereof.
I enjoyed fighting the flood. It was satisfying fighting off hordes of them and emerging victorious.
