The official fan site kit for Bioware’s upcoming Jade Empire RPG has been released, Microsoft announced yesterday. The 6MB kit includes screenshots, borders, logos, and concept art, and can be downloaded at the Jade Empire page on the official Xbox site. Set for a holiday 2004 release, Jade Empire is a martial-arts-themed adventure set in ancient China that draws its inspiration from kung fu films.

BioWare has proven itself to be among the best RPG developers in the business with an impressive portfolio that includes Neverwinter Nights and more importantly (for Xbox owners) Knights of the Old Republic. While the natural next move for BioWare would have seemed to be a sequel to KOTOR, the Canadian developer put the future of that franchise in the hands of burgeoning developer Obsidian Entertainment. Why leave the world of Star Wars and not pursue a sequel to the most critically acclaimed game of 2003? The answer is Jade Empire.
Using an upgraded version of the KOTOR engine, Jade Empire is BioWare's first big foray into a non-licensed RPG. Heavily entrenched in Chinese mythology, Jade Empire features real-time combat, the ability to sway to the side of good or evil (a la KOTOR), and a seemingly endless supply of visual martial arts magic. Any RPG fan should have an eye on Jade Empire, which is currently scheduled for release this holiday
