THQ and Nickelodeon have today announced the development of Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams for all current generation consoles and the Game Boy Advance. Scheduled for release in October this year, the sequel to Tak and the Power of Juju will see players reprising the titular role of Tak, a young shaman's apprentice who has grown more powerful since the events of the first game.

"Having just hit our million unit mark globally, we are ecstatic with the major success of Tak and anticipate that Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams will provide an intriguing epilogue to this epic interactive adventure," said Eric Doctorow, COO at THQ. "Furthermore, our relationship with Nickelodeon continues to strengthen and we're delighted that we will be collaborating with them to continue building the Tak brand."

"With the recent success of Tak and the Power of Juju, we're excited to have an opportunity to partner with THQ in order to further the Tak storyline," added Stephen Youngwood, senior vice president, Nickelodeon media products group. "The first Tak provided a compelling gameplay experience, combined with a great story filled with humor. We're confident that this next version will provide gamers with an equally engaging experience."

Having rescued the Moon Juju from the clutches of Tlaloc in the first game, Tak is now determined to defeat the evil shaman once and for all. To do so, players will first embark on a quest to recover the Nightmare Scepter--learning and employing a number of new Juju magic abilities along the way. One such ability will be the Juju magic of the animals, allowing players not only to possess various creatures, but also to transform Tak into a spirit animal.

Other new features in Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams will include three brand new Juju gods, nine new nightmare creatures, and the introduction of Jibolba's brother, JB. Tak will also be outfitted with a number of new Juju powered artifacts, including the "Dream Shaker", a device that gives Tak the power to close dream rifts.

Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams will be shown for the first time at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
