As always, I hope for the best out of the Microsoft camp, but after looking back at last year's E3, I though about a few of Microsoft's major highlights of the show: Rare, XSN, and XBL.

Microsoft's puchase of Rare was a big deal. The developer of some of the best N64 titles available exclusively on the XBox. At E3, we saw Kameo, Conker: Live and Uncut, and Grabbed By The Ghoulies. None of these titles were extremely groundbreaking, and so far wwe have only seen one of these titles released.

Second on Microsoft's plate was the XSN sports line. Many believed this to be Microsoft's way to fight against EA's lack of compromise in their big Live dispute. It was to not only offer the quality gameplay from the Microsoft Sport's line, but it was also to offer online play, leaderboards, and league play via the upgraded Live service. Here we are a year later, and XSN is calling it quits, and we won't even see a second generation of the XSN series.

The third highlite of E3 '03 was the upcoming XBL update, which would add the XBL dashboard, along with the ability to check your friends list from xbox.com. One year later, were are receiving updates that would have made last years update seem a bit more full. Even though new features were added, we have to wait for future Live titles to take advantage.

I, like many of you, am hoping for the best this E3, but even if everything seems good at theis E3, I'd doubt all of the promises made will be as great as they seem. I'd bet the big showings at E3 this year for Microsoft are Bioware/Lucasarts, EA, and possibly Sega. Anyone have any bets as to what might appear this year?

B.C.
Possible Xbox 2 info

And we will be seeing more XSN games. They are skipping a year to re-evaluate. Is RSC2 XSN? I know it has online, but is there any XSN stuff set up for it?

But yeah last years E3 wasn't the best for MS

*crosses fingers* I really want to see the BC stuff

I am sure you will be seeing plenty of new BC info this year. Last year it was shown behind closed doors (Along with Fable) and it was looking great then. The interactivity you have with your tribe and the way it develops is astounding. It has been well woerth the wait, and here's to hoping it's released this year!

If you think XBox had a bad E3 look at the last couple of years for PS2.. If you have an XBox and no other consoles than you're not missing out on anything..

microsoft isn't the only company taking a break from the sports games, sony's 989 sports division is taking a break from several of its games to do major updates, etc....

I think MS is stopping with 4 major sports titles because of EA Live. MS still intends to make a Top Spin 2005 and Links 2005. But I think since EA signed onto Live MS will let ESPN and Madden be their primary online titles.

This years E3 was great in my opinion.

The reason why Rare is coming out with crap is because all the people that worked on games like conker, goldeneye, and banjo and kazooie have all left to other companies. They now have a lot of new people that will be coming with with different stuff than what we are used to from Rare. It is a sad thing because Rare came out with some great games back on the good ol' N64.

Nah, man - Conker looks absolutely GREAT. Kameo also looks pretty damn cool. Can't wait to play either of them.

I think of this E3 as the year Microsoft really turned the corner and started making good on what were only promises before.

Rare, for instance. Sounded great at first, but then came the embarrassment of GBTG, and lots of silence on the other games (which no one was particularly excited about anyhow, except for PDO). This was the E3 in which the promise of Rare started to be fulfilled, and we saw what great things Conker and Kameo were turning into. We'll see what those games are REALLY like soon enough, but Rare really redeemed their promise this year.

Another example would be sports. Last year it was XSN, which sounded good but turned out kind of flat. This year, a fork in the eye to Sony: we have the EA sports lineup, and some other great EA stuff to go with it too. A tremendous shot in the arm. As with Rare, this was the year the "sports" thing (especially on Live) really turned around for Xbox.

And then there are the dozen AAA games, seen in primitive, incubator form last year, but nearing final completion now. Yes, there have been delays. AAA games are often delayed. But they are nearing arrival, that's the main thing.

Xbox is really turning the corner, and promises are being delivered on. That's what I'm taking away from this year's E3.

I for one can't wait for Conker. I never played it for N64 and I hear so much about it. The mulitplayer makes it sound even more impressive. Kameo looks good as well. I will definately get both of those.

The games Microsoft showed this E3 destroyed anything Nintendo and Sony could muster.

I concur TRIR. What else could we ask for?

Were there any other games other than Halo 2? Honestly, I was so damn busy focussing on Halo 2 that I didn't even care to see what else E3 had to offer from any of the big three consoles :D
