As always, I hope for the best out of the Microsoft camp, but after looking back at last year's E3, I though about a few of Microsoft's major highlights of the show: Rare, XSN, and XBL.
Microsoft's puchase of Rare was a big deal. The developer of some of the best N64 titles available exclusively on the XBox. At E3, we saw Kameo, Conker: Live and Uncut, and Grabbed By The Ghoulies. None of these titles were extremely groundbreaking, and so far wwe have only seen one of these titles released.
Second on Microsoft's plate was the XSN sports line. Many believed this to be Microsoft's way to fight against EA's lack of compromise in their big Live dispute. It was to not only offer the quality gameplay from the Microsoft Sport's line, but it was also to offer online play, leaderboards, and league play via the upgraded Live service. Here we are a year later, and XSN is calling it quits, and we won't even see a second generation of the XSN series.
The third highlite of E3 '03 was the upcoming XBL update, which would add the XBL dashboard, along with the ability to check your friends list from xbox.com. One year later, were are receiving updates that would have made last years update seem a bit more full. Even though new features were added, we have to wait for future Live titles to take advantage.
I, like many of you, am hoping for the best this E3, but even if everything seems good at theis E3, I'd doubt all of the promises made will be as great as they seem. I'd bet the big showings at E3 this year for Microsoft are Bioware/Lucasarts, EA, and possibly Sega. Anyone have any bets as to what might appear this year?
