not sure if this is a repost but

"A significant part of Take-Two's strategy is to gain market share by offering extremely high quality products, supported with aggressive marketing and value pricing. "We plan to expand the audience for ESPN Videogames' sports titles by applying a variety of proven marketing techniques," said Mr. Eibeler. "We are also adding the compelling element of value pricing to this high quality line, creating a significant point of differentiation for both core and casual gamers. We believe the recent console price cuts are bringing new consumers into the interactive entertainment market, and sports titles will be a meaningful part of their software purchases. Finally, with Sony and Microsoft not publishing sports titles this holiday season, there is a significant competitive opportunity for ESPN Videogames titles. The combination of these factors should expand the overall market for sports titles."

I really wanna believe this is true, but I really think there's some kinda mistake. But hey, I planned on gettin this game. So I'm all for the bargain price, and seeing that quote does help me believe that just maybe, it will be cheaper. With that price tag though, I'd have to think ESPN will destroy Madden this season.

$19.99 for everything this game has to offer???? Major props to Sega and Take-Two.

:hail: :hail: :hail:

Edit - Mistake or not, I went ahead and pre-ordered it. :D

I think $30 would have been a smarter move, but with EA going Live, they HAD to do something like this - dam, it feels good to be a gangsta :hump:

OMG! That is amazing! $20? Just like someone else above, 2k1 was the last Sega Sports title I enjoyed. This will be a close race this year. On top of that, if sega did this with the NHL 2k5, it would without a doubt be the #1 hockey title on all platforms.

It's a relief I won't have to shell out 50 bux again this year.

I was reading a report posted on the IGN forums saying not only the game will be 20 bucks but it will also release early on July 28th.

I hope this doesn't mean that its gonna go downhill.

CharlieHustle

I seriously think it wont be goin downhill. Think about it... Your major competitor(bully EA) just acquired the only advantage that you had over it on the xbox system: LIVE. Now that means that more people will be gettin madden instead of ESPN football, due to the fact that casual gamers will buy madden games first. SEGA could have sucked it up and and hoped for the best even though their game is better graphically and gameplay wise(haters debate elsewhere), but if it is a price drop, then they can get a significant share of the market. Us hardcore gamers will be getting it if it was 50 bones, this is to get those on the fences to buy it. Very smart.

I just hope....that they take a hint and adversties their product. What's the point in having the low smo price if the low schmo doesn't know about it. I'm impressed by their grit and ingenuity. I just wanna see them go for the jugglar.

I was only going to get NCAA 2005, but for 20 bucks i'll pick this up to!

Is this a limited time price?

Guys, if you can, pre-order this NOW and show your support for this game. This has to be the year that ESPN makes EA shake hard. I just pre-ordered 2 copies, one for one of my friends that only has last years version as his only game on the Xbox, but he's 38, so I'll forgive him. I don't think this is going to stay at this price, since on Gamestop it says "Save $30" so get on this guys.

Hey everyone Im new here and am loving every minute of it. I used to have a PS2 but that piece of **** always broke on me. I love everything about Xbox. I can't wait for Madden to get some compotition from ESPN because then eventually Madden will drop and so will everything else. By the way what happened to DZ?

Use my link, once you add it to your cart and then checkout, they ask for a coupon during the order.

I'm confused. On Gamestop it says PreRelease: 7/27/04 and on EB it says PreOrder: ships on 8/24/04. Can someone clarify the difference for me before i finalize my order?

IGN has it in August too, so I'd go with that.

Welcome to the dark side - you'll be much happier with the Xbox, in my opinion.

DZ was a long time member on this site, as well as a part of the DDC (our clan) and was killed a few weeks ago. He was by far one of the best of the best on ESPN NFL games, and not many on this site could even come close to him in it. He's deeply missed man.

Cheers tho - welcome aboard

Thx for the insight Casper. I went ahead and preordered NCAA 2005 and ESPN 2k5 from EBGames. Should be plenty of good times ahead

Great move by Sega. Honestly now, there is no reason to put up the lesser Madden this year.

P.S. I got mine ordered.

They must be planning on a lot of SALES to drop the price THAT low.

I wonder if Madden will feel compelled to follow suit?

Online only??? Maybe you can only preorder online. I bet it's still $20 on release.

I wouldn't doubt if it is released early to beat Madden to store shelves.

Not exactly solid of course, but I have called that EB number and they have told me the same thing. I plan to go to EB tommorow and get some more info on whether or not it will release as 20 bucks.

As of right now, you can pre-order it online and arrange for a in-store pickup. Not sure how long that will last.

I went to eb(tallahassee) today, it was in their cpu that the game was 20 dollars, and the release was august 28th. So you know i put my on that. The dude who rung me up thought it was a mistake, but when he saw it in the cpu, it made him a believer.

I think it's great but it's too bad it had to come to this because ESPN is far and away better than Madden. I would have paid full price for admission but as Casper did, I'll be picking one up for a friend as well. Support SEGA and let's make Madden second in line.

Anthony, seeing as how you and I live in the same city hopefully we wont have any troubles. But seeing as how others have already gone to stores and confirmed it I dont think we will have any problems.

Well, its officially $20, its on XBA's front page, "Just announced" on Ebgames.com, and a news report on Gamespot.com

ESPN Football 2K5 officially $19.99 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/06/11/news_6100505.html)

I think that this is a very smart move for sega. Many people only purchase ESPN over Madden becuase of the XBL support. Now that this is gone they had to do something.

I'm not much of a sports game fan, but for $20 how can you go wrong!
