I always wondered why they keep the masks on...

I'm kind of pissed that there isn't a spooon tho. I mean dual wielding spoon would be the most uber weapon combo there is...but wait, he said no dual wielding anything stupid...

Best line of article:

...when you give us $50 in November.

Good stuff...way to keep OXM straight :D

But, seriously, based on the facts at the time, I think OXM did a fine job. Who wouldn'd be excited to share info about Halo 2? That's why we're here!!!!

By the time that OXM got out, E3 was done and over with, and the article was written far before the Bungie crew hopped on their planes to LA. There was a lot in there they said was "un talked about" that Bungie explained in full through E3. And I agree, they just wanted to show us what they got to see, and I thank them for it!

true dat, true dat.

uh, did any one see the word "rebreather?"

what the heck did that mean?

and, they also mentioned elites in funny armor. I didnt catch any elites in weird armor, what were they talking about? was it those black elite swordsmen at the end of last years e3 demo?

Someone clarify!

The Grunts breathe Methane, and the mask on their face gives Methane to them from their backpack. It also takes whatever the waste gas is that they breathe out and converts it back into Methane so they can "re-breathe" it.

The black Spec-Ops Elites now have white armor instead: http://www.bungie.net/images/Games/Halo2/Gallery/Renders/oxm-specopseliterender-0402.jpg

well, i know that they breath mthane, and i know that why they carry around that cumbersome triangular back pack, but i was not aware that the methane that they exhale is chemiaclly changed back to methane. ALso, if they can rebreath what they exhale, why do they need a whole back pack of air?

Furthermore, if there is a grunt without the rebreather, but still has the backpack, what does that say about the rebreather? Is it really nessesary?

okay, if the black spec ops elites have white armor, then what are those black armored elites at the end of the halo 2k3 e3 video?

BTW, the information you provide is very appreciated. Personally, i cant navigate though bungie.com that well...

Glad we can help

To answer a couple of your questions (using my numbers above)
1) A SCUBA diver wheres a rebreather, space walkers where them, and so do US Army HALO (High-Altitude Low Opening, i believe) jumpers. The pack isn't too big and you do need to start with some methane, and a place to store excess. Always better to have more than just enough.

2)Just incase he leaves, enters and reenters a methane-based atmosphere. And the rebreather is quite necessary on places such as earth.

3)That vid was from e3-2k3, an entire year ago. A lot of things in the game have changed.

ah i see.

i never thought of that. I always imagined the fight would be on earth or halo, or a ship. I never thought that the battle would go to a methane based world for the grunts to breath in.

And i was not aware that a rebreather was a real term. thanx for clearing that up.

oh, and as for the last question, a simple "i dont know" would have explained things much better...lol!

There has been nothing said about fighting on the Grunt's homeworld, so don't trust to hope.

TheCovenant

of course not. i didnt say on the grunt world, i said a place with methane based atmosphere.

It probably isnt safe to say im sure there will be, but im sure i can hypothesize about it. It seems logical that on such a world a grunt wouldn't need a rebreather. And bungie hasn't said anything about the singleplayer campaign except that it's an interplanetary romp, where you dont know where you'll end up next, or what you'll have to do there......

Let me clarify, Those elites are either:
1) The new white armored elites are those black ones
2) They are simply regular elites in drop pods.

In our solar system: Neptune and moon Triton, Pluto, Saturns moon Triton, and Uranus have a good amount of methane.
Maybe grunts come from Uranus?

But fighting on the grunt homeworld seems a logical possibility, eventualy. Maybe not this time, there are other species to deal with that are far more dangerous (elites, hunters, brutes, basicaly all the others).
Then again perhaps the grunts don't need a rebreather due to an atmosphere inside a ship. Its all speculation...

holy crap! i dont know why, but the thought of them being colored different for drop pods sounds cool.

like paratroopers or something.

man, there's so many different elites, all for different designated stuff. gives you a lot more appreciation for ther enemy you're fighting.
