Rainbow 6 Wrecking Crew....or How to Co-Op

Tired as I am of the incessant need for my fellow Addicts to play Team Survival, I opted out of my virgin experience w/ Rid**** tonight to play some R63 w/ some of you guys. These guys were Reclaimer-XBA, AlphaCigara, and LTM360.

So, I join the game, having fallen to the sway of multiple invites (I'm not that cool, they were just that lonely :P ), and after a couple rounds of Terrorist Hunt, the suggestion for some co-op was made. And we took the initiative to start from square one on Elite mode.

And can I say, it was a blast. Pretty much one of my better, more memorable XBL experiences. And w/ this thread, I challenge you all to explore this game a bit more. Nothing like breaching and clearing a room w/ 3 of your more favorite internet homeboys. The difficulty level was rewarding, the teamwork beneficial, and the experience memorable.

So, next time you boot up Rainbow, think about the possibilities. While a human opponent is difficult enough to tag, a co-op 4 player experience is nothing to shrug off.

Anybody here had there time w/ the co-op? Fragmaster B and myself were into it a ways back, but I'm feeling a revival of the mode coming on.

Had fun w/ the terrorist hunting last night, except Alpha's lame ass kept dropping gas when he knew me and lllusion weren't wearing masks...:bang: Needless to say, REC (our little squad's unofficial leader) was sorely missed. Somebody's gotta keep these kids in line.

Hey guys, just to let you know, I'm out of town this week. I just came back to Houston to get my wife's car from the dealership and I'm driving it back to her parents place.
I won't be officially back until maybe Friday, definitately Saturday. (I just swung by the house to check mail and email.)
It'll be on when I get back, and we'll bring our team back into the mix.
I'll even teach up some real Tactical Squad mechanics like Breach and Sweep and the roles of a 4 man squad.

I'll give you all some study material before the mission:
4 man squad
Point/Breach Officer - USAS-12, door charges, grenade launcher (HE)
Sweep Officer - submachine gun of choice, frags
Sweep Officer - submachine gun of choice, frags
Security Officer - M240(SAW), frags
(side are pistol of choice)

Squad can be broken into a 2 - 2 man teams for tandem breaches.
Point and Sweep on both squads.

Two types of entry:
Stealth: Silent entry no shots fired until enemy engagement
Dynamic: Explosive door breach, distraction devices and guns "red and free"

Pre Entry:
Team lines up along the wall of point of entry. This is called a "SWAT Stick"
Order is Point, sweep 1, 2, security.
Point either opens door or blows door. At that moment the door goes off, the team moves in.
Button hook entry:
Point goes through the door killing enemies in vision hooks to the right and goes along wall.
Sweep 1 crosses to the left behind point firing on enemies and goes along left wall.
Sweep 2 hooks to the right and follows pointman, firing on enemies.
Security follows Sweep 1 cleaning up enemies.
Team follows the lenght of the walls until:
They encounter an open door.
A bunkered enemy
The squad will stop half way up the next wall. So, along the back wall, halfway up the side wall.
Zones of fire overlap and by the time the team reaches the stop point, the entire room is covered and secured.

Note:
Point and Sweep 1 fire will be at 45 degree angle from wall.
Sweep 2 and Security will arc more into the room.
You cannot stop to engage. You have to keep moving and firing to the stop point.
If you stop, you bottleneck the team. This is a big change from our normal play. Keep moving and firing. This is called "Freight Train" The train rolls and keeps rolling into the room until the threat is clear in that room.
If an officer goes down, step around him and keep going. This is a leap of faith for all of us in this game. (Unless you do this in real life, then you know all the bad guys will be dead from your team)


Post Entry:
At the end of the entry, sweep 1 and 2 cover doors and windows, security covers point as the point performs an objective in the room like secure hostage or disarm bomb. (or in my case, make arrest)

Large corridor/alley.
Diamond formation:
Heading down the middle of the alley
Point man faces down the path.
Sweep 1 and 2 are on his left and right facing out to the walls covering 180degrees.
Security puts his back to the point's back covering the rear. Now the squad moves slowly and silently down the way, covering left to right, up and down.
This may be hard to do in a videogame, but hey.. what the hell.
If massive fire is encountered, the squad breaks apart to either side and engages.

Team Assault / or when things go bad.
Team breaks in half, to the left and right of the space or room finding cover.
Leads advance to new cover and Rear advance to where the leads where. (Leapfrogging). (Firing all the way)
Anyone standing while firing who needs to reload must crouch to clear space for the security.
You can actually leap frog down hall ways if you want.

(no real use of a sniper unless we are playing Ghost Recon.)

It's going to take practice, because making a dynamic entry is a giant cluster **** in real life when you first start doing it. I can only imagine trying to translate this into RS3 will be difficult. Especially the getting into the door part. You have to be right on your teammates ass on the way in. In real life, my M4's barrel is nearly literally on my partners shoulder as we go in and I go into the cross.
You can't hesitate going in, and in Rs3, most people stop to shoot. You can't do that here. You have to get in and move and keep moving.
Doorways and windows are called "fatal funnels". These are things you want to avoid normally. But, if you have to go in, then you're going in fast and hard. Usually a door breach or flashbang in real life will be sufficient to stall enough seconds to get the first two guys in to make a hole big enough for the rest of the squad.

Hey... put it this way. This works really well and it's an awesome sight... or we'll die pretty quick.

OK since last night, I have discovered that 99% of what I talked about does not work with 3 people.
An odd amount leaves one guy hanging with no cover.
Because of game mechanics, the man with the door charge will not be the first man in after the door blows.
The diamond formation is nearly an impossibility on a videogame.
But despite all that.. we need a 4 man team, though we had a bunch of fun last night.

Tonight.. same time, but tonight I can't play as long as I did last night. But....
Tomorrow night can be an all nighter for all I care.

Thrasher all those tactics would work out with four guys, but not with 3 as we discovered. Everything is based on a 2/2 movement (Contact-Cover).
Plus we had to modify the dynamic door breach a bit. But with a 4 man, we could pour the hurt on real quick.
We burned through three missions in 3 man mode. Just a straight out slogging.
I'd like to rerun Island Estate though because that is the pinnacle of CQB so far that I've seen. You all would have been proud of the door breaches and rolling thunder that occured. (after a few misguided efforts and accidental grenade discharges)
Not sure yet if I want to redo the Shipyard to get it down right. It's always the second bomb that wears down the team and the last onslaught to the 3rd bomb that reduces the team to bare minimum.
I pretty much took on security and point with the USAS-12. It makes an awesome door knocker, plus while LT or Alpha get busy with an objective I can lay 12 gauge goodness.

We have to rework out tactic when it comes to breaching the auditorium to get the second hostage. Two snipers on the upper west and one on the south and an unknown amount of hostiles on the floor guarding the package.
I'm thinking a double breach north and south. Points go in with grenage launchers at the ready to put some heat up high. They have to move quick out of the way for the two sweeps to take down the floor security. This all hinges if the points can put their grenades on mark in a hurry. It sounds overcomplicated but I can't think of another way to do it. The first hostage rescue we do is textbook perfect, especially with the few shots we actually fire going in. That breach is dead on perfect with the door charges and multiple entries.

I think something we need to concentrate on is laying coverfire into high target rooms.
Remember the "high guard" the guy standing covering the guy crouching?
At certain points it would be benificial for everyone to crouch and crawl in as someone like me with the USAS12 lays down a wall arcoss the room. (It would be better with the 249 or M60) Even if I don't technically hit people, I noticed that the tangos run for cover, and it just breaks up their attack. They either not fire, or fire wildly.
I sort of tried it out when we breached the L shaped office on the first floor with 5 enemies. You guys where crawling in and I was just unloading across the room, nobody really shot back and you and LT where able to clean up shop quickly.
It worked again in the room full of glass cubicles with two ways in.

We're doing alot of things right, its just that every know and then we come across something that requires a bit of planning before execution.
Be ready tonight.. we'll roll again.

By the way, I'm not against trying other games. I do have PGR2 and Crimson. But I do want to make sure RS3 stays our main thing though.
I go to work tomorrow night, so tonight is the night I stay up all night to get back into the swing of my schedule.

I'm wondering how effective a slow door opening would work? Instead of blasting in guns blazing, if we timed it right, we could have the two teams w/ one guy crouched who opens, and one guy standing who's finger is on the trigger. The second we open the doors (say about 6 inches, and slow as to not alarm the tangoes), our man standing tall would pop the guys up top, and the crouchers would pan for any remaining enemies.

Just a thought. I'll keep my eyes peeled to see when you guys all get on.

Well, my plans for tonight with some buddies fell threw so I'm game whenever you all start playing, and church = meh, so I'll be up as long as you all are.

REC & Thrash; I'm thinkin' one of us uses a grenade gun to blast the two upstairs in front of her, and another grenade gun to blast the sniper with a .50 cal. Also, as REC said, I don't mind switchin games up, but I'd like to more-so stick w/Rainbow 3. After today though, I'm pretty played out with Project, after RalliSport 2, it's hard to go back. :)

We can give that a shot. But keep in mind that we have to clear the floor out to keep the rovers from interfering with the rescue. I noticed that if we engage people, that back door to the auditorium is already opened and they're waiting for us. So it's going to be tricky. Once we line up on that back door, the south high guard see's us and starts to shoot.
It's going to be tricky but we'll have to eyeball what it looks like from there.

I know i ask this all the time, but when's the next scheduled get together :) ? I remember Reclaimer saying something about his vacation ending last night, so when can you play again?

I'm on my duty rotation right now. I'm back at work. It'll be about 2 or 3 days before I can get back home to play again. (Assuming I don't have to go out of town for something)
Believe me, I want to get back to the game. This is the most fun I've had on Live ever. Our team has shaped up incredibly and you can really tell when we do coordinated stuff, it's efficient, ruthless and down right violent. Our breaches are excellent like a textbook breach, our coverfire to advance is great to.
I was thinking about the past few missions and how great they worked out.. aside from some minor fiascos.
The inport/export mission is the most violent yet. From the outrageous entry into the first building through every bone crushing firefight we encounter. We'll get it right the next time we roll in.
Sometimes I wish there was a way to record our endevors from a by stander perspective. I'd love to see us blowing up doors and making a breach from the other side of it.

Yeah Halo2 will be cool in it's own right, but I'm not seeing anything on a 4 player co-op for Halo2.
Rainbow Six is really bad ass when it comes to the multiplayer squad game. I'm really looking forward to Black Arrow as well so we can continue the squad warfare.
Something I brought up in the game was if everyone had Ghost Recon or Island Thunder. There's some missions on there I'd like to run through with a human squad.
But I don't think everyone in the team has them. Polling Center or Embassy would be really tight with a human team - rifleman, sniper, support and a demo. That would be fun too.

Don't worry Totten, my last words where "Hey--look over...." and then I got mowed down by gun fire.

REC, I personally didn't like Ghost Recon's, too slow paced for my tastes. Even though I would perfer Rainbow to be a bit quicker, but hey, its realistic, what can ya do? As for Halo 2, that seems like it would be too hard to pull of a strategy like we do in Rainbow, because Halo 2 is a big level, not a enclosed building, or "hide behind that car" sorta thing, its a huge level for the most part, with rocks and trees, and other futureistic debreis (sp).

Gamespot (www.gamespot.com/xbox) has a Black Arrow preview, the game doesn't really seem to be that much different, but I'm down with 10 new multiplayer co-op missions. My birthday is the 26th of this month, so I'll more than likely have some cash to buy Black Arrow the day of its release.

Well the question is, can you do an all human co-op mission on GR, or GRIT?
I haven't done that so it would be important to know if we can get 4 humans in there to take the place of the AI squad.

So I'm trading in Air Force Delta Storm, Project Gotham Racing 1, Dead Man's Hand and Unreal 2 for that.

I'm also trading in Counter Strike Condition Zero (PC) and Battlefield Vietnam for the Xbox Music Mixer set. (screw PC games when you got XBL) I really need a better way to make a soundtrack for my new Xbox. Stupid Halo Ed Xbox doesn't read CD-r's recorded as an audio CD.

Well, that was honestly the best time i've ever had on live, even though we were doing the same mission over and over again :) . Some killer badass moments, i was just glad to be part of the experience. Hopefully we can beat the game tonight/tomorrow night (depending on your time zone :p)

I think I'm going to dump the USAS12 for the M249 SAW. I like taking the role of the support security guy. That room clearance plan is pretty awesome. I fire right at 100 rounds during that move. Suppression fire is a good thing.. Grenade launcher and a 249, I'm a killing machine!

Had a good time as usual, and we even picked up a new guy... Sheeyt to be your replacement for last night's session.
Man, even though it was all good, I just didn't feel like I was with it last night. Making dumb mistakes and I just wasn't playing on par.
I was a little distracted during most of it, because my wife was feaking out because the printer kept eating and destroying the pages she was printing. So I was muting myself for a lot of the time helping her.
After you all left, I played it again with Zero. Even though I died again on the bomb part, now I know where the enemies are coming from. I thought they were coming from that alley, but they're coming out of that truck on the west side.
Next time it will be better.
But I'm at work so I can't play for a couple of days. (Three)

Later on that night I played PGR2 for the first time on Live. That was really cool.
I was actually doing very well.

We kicked some ass last night. I have to say that since we started playing, I've gotten so much better at RS3.
That plan we had in the airport was awesome. It's so cool to switch to thermals and watch the poor sap on the otherside of that door get blown across the room from my door charge I planted as I held the door shut to prevent him from coming in.

to check invites for espn, pause it and go to options, then scroll down to players/friends list. If a little flashing yellow thing is on the side of the screen, that means you got a message. to check those, click on espn messenging in the pause menu and you're good to go :) . I'm sure you have a few pathetic "pleez play with me!" messages from me :p
