odd spontaneous death in slayer? Guardians? WTF?

alright my friend said he was playing with these two other guys, he just killed this dude and then as soon as he respawned he fell over and it said that he was killed by "the guardian(s)". The both of the other dudes play together and they said that they have had it happen to them before too. It must be a weird glitch if they aren't out of their mind. ;) but I said that I would ask around and see if anyone has run into this anomoly before.

and before anyone asks none of their names look anything like Guardian. just figured I'd ask. they are probably full of crap anyways. :watchout:

Ive never experienced it but I have heard of a lot of people who have. Mostly people describe it happening when two people kill each other at exact same times. No one knows why it happens yet. There was even a contest for a $100 EBgames certificate for anyone who could find a convincing reason. No luck though. I'll search HBO and google to see what I can dig up since i've been interested in this too.

EDIT: This is pretty much the best explanation I can find.

It is basically the computer that identifies who killed who responding to a glitch in its system. That means both players killed each other at the same time and the computer cannot identify the killer or the victim. Therefore it just says that person was killed by The Guardians.

At first I was like, does this have something to do with the brutes coming out in Halo2, because they are the guardians of the Temples? But I guess not. I'll do some more research.

This happens to me all the time. Eagle, if you want to see it set up a game of 50% no shields and only melee your opponent. It will happen quite a few times during the game. :)

What, people have never seen the guardians thing before? We even have a specific gametype we called "Guardian" (alien weapons, unlimited grenades, dont used guns, only grenades and melee attacks) because death by the guardians always happens while playing it.

It was prolly one of the developers who added that into the game so that when he was playing it with his other developer friends he could sike them out. Developers do it all the time, he prolly just didn't completely remove this one. With Halo 2 development one of the guys put special holes on each map where you would fall through the floor and be met by powerups/health/weapons/ammo you can also see and kill anyone from these positions, maybe they'll leave a hole behind for us :cheers:

never happened to me, and i've done the melee attack and they have done the melee attack where we both died at the same time, always gave the correct person credit (and this has probably happened 100 - 200 times over the past couple of years that i've died the same time i killed somebody with a melee)

I guess that you're just not that lucky. Because it never happened to me until about a week ago when it happened about 4 times in one match.

Do 50% health, no shields, and use plasma weapons. Only melee and I guarantee you will get the guardians at least once. It usually happens to me 9-10 times when its up to 50.

Okay, when two people melee each other at the same time and it kills both of them, whoever was killed second (within milliseconds of the other person) is killed by The Guardians.

still must only happen on certain setups, because i've been in the die at the same time situation many, many times and i've never seen it do that. (all using melee attacks from both parties)

Thats getting 4 kills all right in a row. Had that happen to me many times before. Its pretty cool actually. I only usually get it on small levels with shotguns though.

I got a few of them when it was two of my friends against me on BG CTF. It was hell, I ended giving up and letting one guy just keep grabbing my flag, but I had like 178 kills and around 150 deaths so I was ready to get it over with.

The funny thing is, Ive had it happen to me with nobody near me.

I was just pooping on my friend, it was about 30-0 and I just heard "UGh" and I just dropped. I always thought it was a way to smite you when you are making a fool out of somebody.

Ive had this happen to me before many times, many different ways. One way, is of course, the obvious, Melee'ing each other deal.

Ive also been sniped out right after i snipe someone else out. try that. any game type, just dont go for the 400 shields, aim for the head across the map, and fire at the same time. You will probably get someone who was killed by a gaurdian.


also, theres always weird ass vehicular kills. Sometimes im sitting in a base, with the warthog blocking the entrance, and right when i run up to it, it kills you (due to it being on a slight slope or something).

This kind of kill doesnt involve anyone, and sometimes it will go to a gaurdian as opposed to being a suicide.

it usually just said I was killed by a vehicle even when someone's rocket sends it into me or someone's vehicle sends another one into me. We probably got a guardian last time my friends got together but didn't notice. Because I died from a melee like 1/10 of a second before my friend died from my melee. :confused: wish I would have been paying attention.

no, ive sniped out my friend while he sniped me out, and wone of us got a killed by the gaurdians. and this isnt a one time thing either.

same goes with the vibrating vehicle thing. when you get a vehicle stuck in weird position they vibrate, and if you touch it atthe worng angle, it kills you. happens to me all the time, cause thats how me and the spartans play. We use vehicles and such to bottle in the flag and stuff.

Actually, it is Killtacular. Trust me on that one...I've gotten tons of them. It's not Killtastic. When you kill four dudes in a row, you will hear "Killtacular".

Killtacular is by far the most adrenaline pumping sound in all of gaming. Even more so than "headshot" in other games. (although running riot comes in a close second)
