Man, it's great playing Halo on-line over XBC with you guys...I realize that we live pretty far away from eachother, but, I think we should do it as often as we can...and I mean all XBA Halo fanatics!
Seriously, dudes...practice now, because when Halo 2 comes out, there are going to be some bad ass Halo players on-line...and Moose and Scorpion are prime examples of it!

No fear...you should try XBC...yeah, it's buggy sometimes, but, hey, it's usually working decent and it's rarely if never down. And, besides, it's Halo on-line!
Also, #1 Stunner...while I agree that the host definately has an advantage, it's still the only way to play Halo on-line...and, to me, that's good enough. The funny thing is, I usually don't host at all...especially if I am by myself...but, there were so many games that I couldn't get into at all because the rooms were all occupied...so, I hosted. If I have a buddy over, I usually host...I can host 16 dudes over XBC...especially if everyone is West Coast...there is no problems whatsoever.
I know a bunch of dudes that live in Federal Way, WA which is only about 15 miles from me...and they said that my host is almost LAN. I even had one guy tell me that he almosts plays better on my host than he does in a LAN...lol....yeah, whatever :D

I can't stand XBC. In my house, I have to run up and down stairs between my Xbox and computer, which creates major hassles. The lag is often bad. There is no in-game communication with those not on your Xbox. And the list goes on.
That is why Bunjie should have made Halo 1.5 to work on Xbox Live!!! Imagine how awesome that would be! It wouldn't have even delayed Halo 2 if they did it right, since they could have contracted with some other company to update Halo, which, IIRC, is what they did with the PC version.
Oh well, Halo 2 will solve all these problems.

If you can get a ping under 30, you wont notice lag.
Its a shame you live on the other side of the country max.
And I agree with Peepers, MS and Bungie were stupid not to release a XBL enabled Halo. That would have been huge.

at first i like the idea of xbc and i sorta still do its just that i cant find it fun playing multiplayer with no one to talk to but urself (which is sorta fun)...plus i have to run up and down the stairs from comp to xbox and half the time the rooms r laggy...so basicly i just play when i have my friends over...i think ill stick to live and just play LAN halo till Halo2 gets here...

It's specific to his region. Kind of like how you can only get cable and dsl in certain areas.
Hey max, I'll be happy to play anytime. I'm like you, i don't care if the host has the advantage, I just want to play Halo...a lot. I'm usually on a lot in the evengings (after 9ish), but if i'm not around. Send me a PM over XBA or use MSN/AIM to get to me. If I'm home, I'm always up for a game.

.
Yeah, dude...I hear that...it's always fun to play against very experienced people that have some serious talent. Hell, maybe someday I'll be in dirty Jerzey on a business trip...I'll give you a holla for sure.
But check this, three of the dudes in Federal Way, that I was referring to, I actually hired and met them on XBC...no joke! They are friggin' bad ass Halo players...Hell, I'd even admit that one guy, nicknamed "004" is better than me....and not just by a tad...the dude is freakin' insane. Don't get me wrong, I'm a damn good player, however, he is more consistent meaning that he never has a poor game that slips through the crack. The other two dudes that I hired are friggin' bad asses, too. The fourth guy I hired blows ass at Halo, but, that's another story :D He's not really into vids, but, a really cool dude, nonetheless.
My close buddy, nicknamed "Jedi" (also a member here at XBA nicknamed "Jedi") and I are rolling up to their pad once every couple weeks for a bloody warfest of Halo LAN. The dude has the ultimate set-up there... One Toshiba HDTV flatscreen Tube (about 40"), and he has three 32" Sony Wegas...all running Component cables. I went there and we had a 4 v 4 pow wow...it's was sweet as hell. Every single dude was damn good...most games I came in 2nd place.....barely....twice I came in 1st and a handful of times I came in 4th, 5th, and one time 6th. All the scores were close as hell during TS...and many games ended in 50-49. It doesn't get much better than that.
I may be going there this coming Sunday so I may not be on XBC this time...but, I'll try to be on during the week if you guys want to roll. Hell, let's try joining Zero-Flaw's server...sounds like it could be good...a good 2 v 2 TS or CTF or....?
Thats good stuff Max...
I wish there was a group of peeps around me that would play. My one friend who use to live in PA would have 18+ people over for halo. But he moved away and I didnt know everyone else that well.

Dude, you're not going to believe this, but, my internet was down and it is FINALLY up again. This is a very rare occasion...my buddy ended up taking off in disappointment. He went home and checked his internet and said that he didn't have access either. So, Comcast must have been doing something with their network or it was down or something.

Go to www.xbconnect.com and check out their different network set-ups. They have pictures and stuff if you are relatively new to the networking scene. It's very helpful.
Keep in mind that if you have a router, you will likely need to forward your TCP ports to 8602...then you'll be in action :)

What I meant by forwarding your ports on your router is that your router has an interface that you can access by your computer. Every router has a different way to get access to that interface. With mine, all I had to do was insert my IP address on the address line of my Internet Explorer. Then, on the screen, it had the option to go to port forwarding. You'll get a list and it will say "TCP" and "UDP"...you want to put in "8602" in your TCP column. It's that simple :)

Well, I'd be more than happy to come online and ruin you guys, but frankly, I can't stand XBC. Firstly, 8 out of 10 games are Blood Gulch CTF (not that it's a bad game, but seriously, where do we draw the line?) But more importantly, I don't know if it's lag, or cheats, but I've seen more than enough bizarre things on XBC to utterly tame my interest in playing. The 7 shotgun blasts to a fellows head, followed by him killing me with one was delightful. I also recall a game on Derelict that involved myself and my compatriot being owned in a completely ridiculous manner (I think we got 2 kills) as we were completely unable to respawn. Seriously, we'd die within 2 seconds of respawning every time. It just struck me as odd. Anyhoo, Nov. 9th yer all gonna pay for my XBC frustration.
It might be difficult to get "ruined" by someone who blames getting their ass kicked on cheats.

While you're probably a pretty decent player, I have yet to experience anything like your experience while playing on XBC. But, I'll take your word for it...
What I see on XBC a lot is there are a lot of dudes that are new to the service. While it's not perfect, a lot of new people get frusterated because they think they are better than they really are. Now, I'm not saying that this is the case with you or not...but, I see a lot of people that claim they beat Halo on Legendary. While that is a good acheivement, it's a tiny speed bump compared to what you'll experience against hardcore mofos that play Halo's multi-player slayer, team slayer, and CTF modes via System Link. It's like it's a completely different game or something...
I remember playing JJaX a long ass time ago...he was very seasoned with multi-player and I was just getting started at the time. Him, Nik2Deep, and Shererboat kicked the living shat out of me and two of my buddies (also new to multi-player at the time)...and we thought it was friggin' Armegedon!! Now, since I'm probably giving JJaX a serious wood while he's reading this, I can say, with confidence, that it's a totally different experience with me now since I have played literally hundreds of hours and practiced like crazy since then.
Bottom line is, it takes practice, more practice...and when you're done, practice some more...because there are some seriously hardcore Halo gamers out there.

I had 2 scores and 25 kills
Jedi had 1 score and 27 kills
and Butterz had 27 kills...way to go, dude!

Yeah dude, i was winning by a good minute there and then i just couldn't hold the hill, yarrggh. But we also played with butterz who is a pretty formidable opponent. I have 3 fixed KotH games that are fun as hell if you ever want to play those. On your server of course, my connection is split between 4 comps here so it's a bit rough for me. I'd say the XBA clan would kick ass in Halo 2 ;)
To FB-Gollum: Trust me dude when I tell you, I was exactly the same way when I started on XBC. I would get owned beyond recognition. And when I thought there wasn't anyone better, I'd jump in a game and get beat down even worse. But the more you play, the more you pick up strategy and start shooting back. Truthfully, I'm not an "elite" player myself, but I have gained significant skill from just playing with Max a few times. You're gonna have server blips and quips, bullet lag, crazy grenade and sniper antics, and much more, but if you play for fun it shouldn't matter. Don't get me wrong here, I like winning (and I'm sure you do to), but you have to put aside your desire to win everytime and replace it with the desire to improve yourself. It takes time to get acclimated to XBC, but once you do, every system link party you go to will fear your presence.

Well, you should know.... The pro's memorize the respawn points. It's pretty sweet to watch them own.. Hell, when i played psycho soldiers [ ranked 5th in the nation ] i got destroyed on the respawn, but we played pretty good, for their skill We scored 39, so it wasn't bad at all. Actually it was their B team, but the b team was damn close to the a... beat the a about 50% of the time at their friday practices... in other games we got owned a lot worse tho... good players
If the B team wins 50% of the practices with the A team, that means they are equal.

I hear that, man...it's a little wierd to get used to, but, very doable to perform on large maps like Hang Em and Blood Gulch. If the host has a decent server, I can definately cause some damage to them.
Hell, I even played 1 v 1 Slayer at Derelict with JJaX. He beat me 25-21 when he was hosting. Though, I must admit, I did grab the camo and overshield and equiped myself with the mean ass Rocket Launcher...I probably got 8 of those kills that way :D The rest was with the Sniper or pistol...or well placed grenades.

See, thing is, I'm not new to multiplayer. My friends and I play MP every monday 6v6 - 8v8 (depending on how many show up). Myself and my buddy "Glitchy" are the 2 best players of the group. I've played in local tournaments at game stores etc. and owned consistently. There are great players out there (certainly better than myself), but I'm still top shelf. Furthermore, I'm a long time online gamer (over 10 years) so I know the signs of lag. Maybe it's my connection (I'm on DSL) or the lack of players in my area, but it was bad. Seriously, the 7 blasts thing was the last straw for me, it was just weird. Anyhoo, I didn't mean to come off as a whiner, I was just saying that XBC connection quality frustrates me greatly (I should point out that I also destroyed some well know players when I was hosting, so, the host advantage is also a rteally big deal), as it's pretty much unfair. ANYHOO, I look forward to lot's of GG's with you guys on Nov. 9th.

For sure, Bretman..You're in MA, right? I think you are 3 hours ahead of me. Let me know when you are generally on-line and we'll hook it up. My MSN is "Maximus2310@hotmail.com"....feel free to add me and we can coordinate things easily that way, too :)

Hey GG's Moose, we gotta play again sometime
btw I couldn't talk in the game room, cause the new version of XBC is extremely buggy for me.

That's what I heard...I decided not to download it in the first place because it says that it's a "Beta"...that word always makes me cringe, especially when I know I have a version that works just fine.

Yea its really annoying when someones trying to talk to you :bang:
Plus the wheel on my mouse doesn't work, so I have to keep clicking down which is a hassle :-\
The beta works fine for me, the only bug I get is that my friends list is gone, but its fixed by just refreshing it.
