Sony plans to release the PS2 Linux kit it's been testing in Japan here in the US.
There's already one website (in Japanese) I found that's apparently running off of a PS2.
That site is here:

The kit alone is said to cost something like $200+ dollars and among other things will include a 40gig HD, USB keyboard, and USB mouse. "

Dude, it does not matter what Sony has coming- whether it's more powerful (which will never be da case) than Xbox or not, the fact of the matter is that "add-ons" dont sell in the US as well as in da land of da rising sun!
So I say to Phony,.. I mean Sony,........ HA!:D

The whole network PS2 will have will flop and fold like ever other add-on in the history of gaming!'
This is one round Microsoft has in the bag!

You I have no idea why sony is even doing this. Yeah linux is great and it give some people some fuel for there battle against MS but this is just silly

I don't care what mini os the console runs on.. If the console kicks ass then it kicks ass. Just because it runs a linux kernel or kernel from maker "X" doesn't mean that the majority of people are going to buy it for that reason.

It makes me wonder what Sony will do with all of their current games since they are only programmed for the current technology...not increased technology. So, to be able to use this new technology, Sony consumers will have to purchase the new games so that the can use it.

Too bad for Sony that they didn't think of this before when they had the capability.

Looks like just a fancy HTTP server to me. Maybe so you could use your PS2 as a server for online games? I like the phrase "PS2 LinuX". This leads me to believe maybe this is intended to be some sort of development kit or something?

Interesting....

BTW - I have a hard time reading chinese, japanese, and garbage ASCII text. I'm getting better at reading ASCII garbage (because I produce a lot of it).

If you have no clue what I'm talking about (Maximus pay attention), then click on link provided at the top.
