In ESPN NFL 2K5 when I'm on defense I pick a play the QB steps back and throws the ball, and everything breaks down from there. I switch to the DB covering the guy get in the perfect postion and press the black button to intercep the ball but it goes through my guy, then the computer catches the ball and out runs everyone, even if hes a 250 pound tight end, it makes no since. Its even went far enough were the ball is thrown and the game takes controll of my DB and runs from the ball like hes scared. I've tried everything and just can't stop the guy from catching the ball, any advice?

I've learned to not take control of the defender, let the computer control it and just press the Y button alot to deflect the pass or white button to intercept. Although I really suck so don't take my advice.

I'd try that but the computer is always behind the wide reciver and they will get beat everytime, and when I do press the Y button to deflect the passes the moron DB just dives the oppisite way and takes him self out of the play, I thought he was so pose to use his hand to knock it down

Ok man, I will give you my two cents although I am sure some people will disagree. These are in no particular order
Use the matchup section to put your best corner on his main reciever. If you are facing Randy Moss, at least make the other reciever beat you, don't let him run all over your D.
To go with the first one, position your DBs so they are setup to make the play. If it is 3rd and 3, move your DBs up to play tight coverage. If it is late in the game, make them play on the outside to keep him from stopping the clock. 3rd and 23, have them play deep.
Put up some double coverage if one guy is smoking you really badly. There is a really short bit on how to double cover in the manual, but a better explanation on the defensive video in the extra section I believe.
Don't let the quarterback throw the ball. Call standard coverages, and then make guys blitz depending on how the offence lines up. I find that if the guy lines up with 4 or 5 WR I spread my defensive line, and the ends have a lot better chance of getting to the quarterback.
Audible out of a bad setup. If you line up and see that you are in a bad situation, call an audible to make it less of a disaster.
As for intercepting the ball by controlling the DB, I have no freakin' idea. I can't steer those guys well enough. If I control one of them I flail like I a complete spaz. I control my defensive line, and I let my linebackers and DBs look after themselves. So while I do get picks with my defence it is a lot more about forcing three and outs than picking the ball.

White button - swats the ball
Black button - gets a pick - but mainly when you're open, not the receiver.
Use the white button to smack it down, unless you know dam sure that you can get that pick, cuz they put they're whole body into it.

all i know is the zone sucks on espn. use the 2 man play and switch it up with the 2 man bump. or just play man with 1 or 2 people blitzing.

Thanks for the help everone, I tried the matchup stick and the reciver was wide open across the middle ten yards down the feild with no one between him and the endzone, the closest guy was a lineman that should have been going after the QB yet I blizted no one and picked a play to cover the pass, thats all I remembered I'll try all the other stuff when I play it later.
Edit
I tried it and it seems to have worked, their still somehow getting the 80 yard run after the catch thing but only once or twice a game.
Thanks for the help

people never use it but a "secret button" for defending passes is R
u can strafe and get your body lined up correctly by hitting this button, it also helps in open field tackles....
all of you are noobs

I don't have any problems like that at all. I pick off passes with ease, easier than with Madden by far.

Not really, I think the zone is great vs certain styles of play. If you go man all the time then your weakening yourself up for a qb run(which is becoming bigger than anything else now a days). If your playing against like the ravens then you will pick the ball off constantly in a good nickle zone
