Although Madden NFL 2005 has only been out for a week so far, it seems Electronic Arts today has announced positive sales figures for the title. According to word issued by the company today, its internal data shows that Madden NFL 2005 has managed to sell more than 1.35 million copies since release; making it the most successful launch week for any game in the series.

This has been on the front page for awhile now, but thanks for recognizing that ;)

Regardless, I think this is a lie, but then again, there's so many kids that are absolutely blinded to the greatness that ESPN is - plus the $20 value that it had this year - that all the Ps2 freaks would do this. Also, which console sold more?

I've played Madden 2005 at EBGames... it just doesn't compare IMO....

ESPN has only sold 800,000 copies total since its release. So thats over a month of sales. Madden definitely took it to them in sales. BUT, ESPN wasnt expecting 800,000 units to sell, so that's a good number for them. Me, I cant stand ESPN this year. The presentation and everything is great, but the gameplay is just aweful! And the AI is freakin retarded. So I went with Madden to coincide with the best football title year in and year out, NCAA.

Not a PS2 freak and was a huge ESPN fanboy till..........Well till the game came out and I played it......Even with a 30 dollar price differance it still peats ESPN in sales....Why? Because it doens't need great presentations and graphics, it just needs the only important thing in a sports game....Gameplay which is sooooooooo much better then ESPN that it isn't funny..........I HATE ESPN

Yeah you beat me....WOW it is a sports game and you can't win them all and it was a good game(7-0).........I have played 20 games on this game and still can't get in to it and stil think it is crap.........While I know I am no where near the best at it, but I know I am not the worse(4-4 online record).......I just hate this game because of it's gameplay(Only thing that matters in a sports game).......peace out

cmon Timmay2406, gameplay the only that matters hmm? well then why dont you prove us all your point of view by starting your own company and produce a game called Gameplay Football with graphics such as this, and see how many sales you get with your strictly gameplay forumula. <sarcasm>remember to keep in mind that gameplay only matters and that you speak for almost everyone gamer on earth when saying this</sarcasm>

while your admiring your cool sense of graphics plz note that you are being very ignorant of the fact that if gameplay only mattered then why would they have developed better graphics if they could of saved money with little blips on the screen such as atari games, they devoloped them becuase graphics do matter and do come into picture when deciding the overall greatness of a game.

As said by a great mind .......peace out

Not sure, but I think he was trying say you shouldn't use graphics as your deciding factor when picking a football game, in which case, I agree, because it's not like one game is billions of levels of graphic quality above the other.

So you buy games that have great graphics and really don't care about gameplay?
DUMBEST thing I have heard. I still play SNS games and NES games because I love gameplay on some of them(not sports games because gameplay was horrible back then) Once again I could care less if such and such game has the best graphics of all time because to me I want a game with good gameplay.....The other day I was playing SNAFU...Why you ask? Well Snoop I like the gameplay in the game and find it enjoyable to try and trap the other snake, Graphics on that game is down right ugly(made in 1981), but it is still a fun game to play......Gameplay is the most important thing to me when it comes to video games................Peace out

What I was mainly pointing out....If you buy a game because of graphics and could care less about gameplay then that is just stupid

Madden gameplay is arcadey whereas ESPN is more sim. Hence the difference in gameplay. Madden has receivers who don't turn around for the ball, they have dbacks who don't play D, they have blockers who miss blocks right in front of them, they have QBs who throw sideways, without looking, and still completes the pass. This is not great gameplay. I could go on. I think ESPN does it to Madden in gameplay, although Madden is still fun.

qb's who throw sideways without looking? I don't think that is really filed under gameplay... I would call that graphics; it is an animation of the game. I could be wrong though.

Why sure it is. It's how the game is played isn't it? I mean a qb can't throw that way. Actually, it's more like the ball starts off going one way for an instant and then it goes sideways. It's not realistic gameplay.

Wolf
09-02-2004, 06:16 PM
but it doesnt really affect the game other than the qb looked wierd does it? you said he still completes the pass.

Well when you say D backs don't play D then I am not even going care of what you say because you have no clue what you are saying.........D backs play amazing D.....It is so much harder passing on this game then years before........A 75 CB can guard Randy Moss.......I guess blockers always get every single block  ......Never really saw some QB pass sideways without looking, you sure we talking about the same game here? Gameplay in this game not only doubles from last years crap, but beats out ESPN's.......Sorry it doesn't looking like someone stuck a freaking boom in anus of the players(looks like that when they run)...In ESPN a ball is thrown but ur defender doesn't even look back or nothing, sorry on Madden you have to reads the D and all that on offense and that Randy Moss can't do a seam and run past by all the defenders, "oh how I could go on"
ESPN is a joke

Awwww youngster, relax now it's just the internet okay? You obviously don't play either game much because it happens(qb throwing awkward passes). Defense is much tighter in ESPN. For example, you can not burn the db just because he is in man coverage and the safety is focused on the post pattern in ESPN. The easiest way to get a first down on Madden is to run receivers into a pick pattern, it never fails. That's too easy. Moss can catch damn near everything deep. A little trick called R trigger makes the defender look the way you want him to. Are you saying that the running in Madden, where a player could almost run parallel to the ground is better than ESPNs' "boom in anus" running? Matter of opinion I guess hunh? So do we agree to disagree? I think that would be the safest bet. We don't want to get all crazy? Have a nice day.

After playing about 3 games since I read your post I think I get where you get that on QB thorwing awkward passes(Only saw it twice in 3 games though).......But I think you are thinking of NCAA 2005 because that game is just "bombs away".......On Madden you actually have to read the D before a play and can't realy on "going deep" as you would say".....Moss doesn't catch much deep on Madden like in ESPN......I am in 2 ESPN leagues and in 1 league(4th week) here are Moss's stats - 39 RECS, 573 Yards and Long REC is 88......Yeah u see stats like these all the time....Madden is so freaking hard on Offense........I can see you don't play Madden much.....R trigger trick(wtf is that?).......Are you saying that is a pump fake becuz if you are that is the black button.........ESPN once again is a complete joke......Sorry I like to think on a football game, guess you don't

Now see you started off good. You sounded mature and reasonable. And then boom!(madden fav) you broke down and got indignant! What happened? First, let me apologize and explain that I play Madden on PS2. Subpar game on a subpar system you know. J/K Okay maybe it's my skills but if I get one on one coverage with my wideout, I send him deep off of the in pattern, be it a post or deep middle. The safety can't cover both. The safety usually if not always go for the man coming towards him(post guy) that leaves someone like Randy alone with a DB. If the db is behind Randy he's dead. If you take control of Randy and jump, you'll catch the deep bomb at least 90 percent of the time. Now 39 recs for 573 yards averages out to be about 14.6 yards per catch. That's pretty realistic. I'll check his stats over a season and see how it adds up. The r trigger I speak of is when you're playing d on ESPN. It makes the defender face the offense. Again, I like both games. It's just that I think ESPN is better. You think Madden is better. I like apples, you like oranges, you know so what. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter does it, or does it?

Hey, T? Timmy hates ESPN because he is horrible at it (he lost to me, I mean come on, that's bad right there...) it's quite pointless to argue with him because he won't agree to disagree, or agree to anything for that matter. He makes other little excuses about why he doesn't like it, problem is, is that the reasons are hidden by the fact he sucks.

(I'm just being a jerk to Tim, I know him so don't think im bashing the newb. He likes Madden for reasons I fail to understand, I'll agree Madden slaughters ESPN on the defensive side, but everything else I think ESPN is better)

Yeah, I actually made a mistake in describing the gameplay in ESPN. The right trigger doesn't do what I said it does on ESPN but on Madden it does. My bad. I think both games are good in their own right. ;)

Play madden on all madden, and you get your sim Football game. The D-Backs will cover everything, linebackers will shuck their blocks and be blocked. It all depends on how you play the game. Sure Madden is gonna seem arcady and unrealistic if you play on Pro all the time. The sales speak for themselves. All of you playing ESPN now and saying it's better are just satisfied you got your game for $20. I'll take my deeeper franchise mode and better gameplay over ESPN presentations any day.

P.S. Snoop, your gameplay football lineup has 9 players, and Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is the greatest football game of all time.

I don't get it. ESPN is light years ahead of Madden and I owned both. Madden went back 2 days later. It was bad. Real bad. Money plays, weak graphics and bad commentary don't make a great F-ball game. ESPN baby and remember, I only played Madden before NFL 2K on the Dreamcast came out. It was all I needed then and now.
