Considering the huge preview they did on the game and the last days' worth of movies it should be interesting to see how long/detailed the actual review is. I'm predicting a score > 9.2 (although I'll get the game no matter what score it gets). Post thoughts on the review/predictions of score (I know we already did this with Gamespot). *sits patiently*

I thought this quote from the review at IGN is hilarious!!
"When you have some renown and if you aren't so evil that everyone runs at the sight of your visage, you can command NPCs to follow you. Lead them out of town and into combat and then use them as a buffer between yourself and your enemies. Yes, if you are clever you can use NPCs as human shields. Hey, the rock troll's gotta attack something, better that dude from the shop than you, right? "
-IGN review
and i'm disappointed to hear that the townspeople tend to say the same thing over and over again ... but i should expect that in RPG's. Also kinda disapointed to hear that it was easy to beat the game... But from the variety that this game offers, i'm thrilled to even hear its out for xbox. Cant wait!!!

9.3? damnit, not as epic as we all thought. According to ign, kotor was better than fable.
meh, im still getting it, and im still going to love it :)

I was dissapointed to hear how it lost some of its scope. I was hoping for something akin to Morrowind but where the world feels more invovling in terms of your character. Turns out you can't even roam the country side in any direction you wish, a la morrowind. Oh well, I'm sure it will still be a great game, and there's always hope for the sequel.
I remember hearing once, as an example of what kind of game they wanted to make, your character could happen upon a group of kids. You could kill them, but leave one alive with a scar down his face. Ten years later, you might see this boy grown into a man, with a heart consumed by revenge for you. This is the kind of game I hope they can deliver next time. It shouldn't have a single storyline to follow.
I want something open ended. like civilization, where everytime you play it will be different. Oh well...
I agree. The cutbacks are disappointing, but it always did sound overly ambitious. I have no doubt that this will still see a lot of the inside of my xbox though.
Reviews seem fair so far. While some are disappointed w/ the scores, anything that gets over a 9 can't be all that bad. Like was mentioned in the IGN review, I don't think any of us would be disappointed at all if we hadn't been following this game's development lo these many years.

i agree. anything 9 or above is great, it's just that peter m. promised sooo much and he couldn't deliver on some cool features. maybe on the next game he should keep his mouth shut at least until he knows for certain if things will work or not. then he won't be setting himself and the gamers up for some disappointment. i think a lot of people would think everything you can do in fable is amazing if we had not been following it for so long and listening to everything it wanted to accomplish, like you said.
i think ign's huge preview set us (well me at least...) up for a little disappointment, as well, saying that it could be a contender with halo 2 for game of the year and regardless of the features that were cut, it will still be awesome. i just don't feel that 9.3 (or 9.1 at teamxbox), still a good score, reflects that. i would really like to see how other sites and magazines review it, it confuses me how espn 2k5 got a 9.5 on ign, and fable is below it at 9.3. i love espn football, but fable has been in development 4 years trying to accomplish something revolutionary, and 2k5 is just a (much) better version of last year's football game.
As far as the score goes, I look at it like this:
They gave KOTOR a 9.5, which they feel is the best RPG on the Xbox to date. So they really couldn't have given Fable a better score and still claimed that. But who knows.
-edit- also 2k5 is a whole different genre and has to be ranked accordingly. it's kind of like when someone comes into the forums and says they love rpg's and fps, so should they buy Morrowind or R6? apples and oranges.

good point, i understand what you mean.
i've got some small mixed feelings about fable, but i've had it on pre-order for months and i will still love it.

and just when it gets 2 reviews over 9, I just read GMR magazine gave it a 8/10 :watchout:

I'm personally happy that the game isn't too open-ended. IMO, Morrowind is too open-ended, and I couldn't get into the game. I can't wait to play Fable! :)

Same here, i played morrowind (both the normal and GOTY editions) trying for a few hours to get into it, but it was just boring to me...since it's not too open-ended, i think i'll like it a lot more

I'm a bit disapointed by what was promised 3 years ago, compared to what is being delivered on September 14th. But like Duke said, it was a little overly amibitious in the first place. I'll still be picking this title up, and there is a good chance that it will become my favorite game on the Xbox, and hold that title until another rpg betters it.

I won't be buying this game i feel a flop coming on did you see the amount of fable advertisement's on those sites, those banners aren't free. These sites were going to give the best reveiw possible the IGN one i feel the guy was saying it sucked in the nicest possible way. I want what i was promised "every action you make will have an effect" well thats not what im gonna get when i buy this game so im not going to buy it.

You are so right! IGN was totally saying the game sucked with their huge preview praising the game, and then again with their 9.3 score! What a ****ty game this is gonna be  Do you have any idea how hard it would have been to implement everything that this game originally said? It was pretty over-ambitious from the get go, any half-wit could see that. But whatever, I'm sure Big Blue Box is really concerned that your not gonna buy the game because of a few missing things in what sounds to be an otherwise great game. In other words; your loss.

Sigh, I think GMR made a really good point in their review where they said that Fable was, to paraphrase, more or less a new genre of RPG in it's adolesence. Not everything works flawlessly, but what does is very innovative. Frankly, I'm willing to bet this is one of those titles we look back on in the future and then begin to grasp what it really started. Besides, they now have a couple of years to get all the features they couldn't suss out before into working condition and get it ready to be the premiere RPG for the Xenon launch. Forget what you've read and enjo the game for what it is, not what you wanted it to be. All the reviews share the thought, the game kicks total ass, but it's hard to see past what you were told, yeah, Molyneux needs to keep his mouth shut so as not to spoil the enjoyment of the amazing games he creates.

I wasn't expecting the game to be as open ended as some of you thought. I'm kind of glad actually that the game isn't that open-ended, I thought Morrowind was extrememly boring (like Everquest but by yourself), and KoTOR was just too much reading for me in a game, but Fable looks promising. There are some things tho that I spotted immediately in reports and previews that I knew were gonna bring this game down to near flop: 1) No multiplayer. This is something that would have taken Fable to another level, when they dropped it, they lost A LOT of clout. 2) Revelation of the games limitations. Simply put, Molyneux bit off a lot more than he could chew. He should of waiting to see what his game had the time and capacity for before promising a game like none other.
On the lighter side, I will be playing Fable, will I buy it, maybe, but I'll most likely rent it and see how long it takes to beat. This game is gonna open a huge can o worms in the genre and I applaud Molyneaux for trying really hard to give us something entirely new.

I agree with most of that, except the multiplayer part. RPGs are nice if you can run through them co-op, but MP (for RPGs) isn't a make or break feature like it is with a FPS or a sports game.
With all the calculations it takes to determine how NPCs feel about you and react to you its wasn't a surprise to me that MP was cut. There are just way too many variables and it probably takes way too much power to do all those calculations twice. Not to mention the calculations and complications trying to develope a system were they can mesh and coexist.
It must be insanely difficult to do that with multiple simulators.
