hi, im at college now and my school is on a fiber optic system. right now in my room i have my computer, gigabit ethernet media converter, 2 cat5e cables, xbox, tv, and a hub. ive been trying to set my xbox up on live for a while now. i already have a live account and used to play on it at home. ive plugged the xbox directly to the converter and through the hub and no luck either way. please help, thank you
You'll have to find out if the ports are blocked at the college, which, I'd assume, they are.
UDP 88, UDP 3074, and TCP 3074 all must be opened for you to connect to XBL. Contact the IS department there and see if they are blocked. If so, you're SOL.

casper has the best reason, most colleges have a pretty restrictive firewall to block people from using up the bandwidth. If enough people request it though, they may be willing to open these ports for people such as yourself who are active xbox gamers.
