View Full Version : Bored with Fable

I may be in the minority, but I'm bored with Fable. I realize I have only played it for about four hours, but I can't see it getting much better. Reminds me of Enclave.
I was hoping for something more like Morrowind. Just my opinion.

It's a completely different game from Morrowind.... focuses on action as opposed to pure RPG elements... whatever floats your boat I guess...

god, i cant even compare fable and morrowind in the same sentance. Fable good. Morrowind sucks ass. With fable i feel like i've actually got into the game and only have 4 hours into it. I played morrowind 10 - 20 hours over the weekend once, and felt like i was still starting it up. I dunno about you all, but i dont have time for a 100 hour game. That would take me a good 8 months to finish up. Hell, its taken almost a week for me to hit 4 hours and i've been playing it quite a bit.

I'm not going to lie. I was severely disappointed in a lot of aspects of fable. For one, the frame rate slips to head-ache level a lot of the times and makes rotating your camera and fighting a real pain in the head as well as a pain in the ass. Also Big Blue Box spent a little too much time touting this as an 'open ended' RPG. Now what I was expecting was something not as grand as Morrowind, but something more along the lines of EQ, with decent sized zones... not linear footpaths. I kept waiting for that big zone to show up where I could whip out my longbow and pick baddies off from a distance for fun, but it never showed up.
Game itself is still fun, kinda like a 'sims' version of an action RPG. While I've definately played worse, this hasn't been the 'ground-breaking revolutionary rpg' that it was promised in my eyes. Don't get me wrong, it's a friggin great game, hence me owning it... but there is a lot more it could have been.

I think the reason why it's not as revolutionary as it was said to be, is because the systems are incapable of doing all of it.
One that pops in my head right away is in the video with that Peter guy how they wanted the Trees to grow from seedlings and stuff, but they couldn't because it was to taxing on the system with everything else already in the game.
I think it basically has every aspect of other RPG's and maybe more, but it steamlines it for a console and a more casual gammer so you don't have to wander around everywhere.
At first I was like "pathways!?!?!", "teleport!?!?!" ... but then I realized that I am keeping my interest in the game because I'm not out getting lost or taking forever to get where I want. I was in a town goofing around and suddenly I thought, "I'm getting bored", but all I did was teleport back to the guild and got a quest. It was nice not having to take the time to run all the way back to the guild then ALL THE WAY to the quest. Streamlined!

Don't get me wrong, I didn't want another Morrowind. I guess I just expected more. Maybe the hype for so long, set me up for a let down. I'm going to put in some good gaming hours today. We'll see.

One thing i hate about, is we are playing per scenes. Like you are not really walking everywhere you want.

thats the only thing i dislike is the having to load each new area. I really hope they make a fable 2 or something similar for the next xbox or even the pc. I think with more horsepower, they could have done more of those "neat" things more easily and more quickly. Guess we'll have to find out, although jade empire looks like it might be a pretty sweet action rpg as well that'll definately give fable a run for the money.
The game rather boiled down to a linear, action game with forced, technical RPG elements.
I think quests, especially, are too technically supported.

Its not really much like Enclave. Enclave was a lot more action based like a FPS (S as in slasher) and Fable sits some where between turn based and Enclave.
Fable would have been the s**t if it was open and as deep as Morrowind, but as it is its still rather refreshing and fun too play. KotOR taught me the values of being stuck on paths/limited. In that game every area was important and used for something. In Morrowind I tended to get lost/side tracted in the vast unused spaces.
I like both wyas of doing it and am not putting on over the other, but if you tend to dislike games that are too open and don't give enough direction the paths aren't so bad.
One thing I really dislike is the in-ablility to swim/jump/climb. I think things should have been rendered so you could do what ever you wanted on what was there and they could have still limited you to a certain radius/area of maps.
Oh well, Fable has some very cool unique features and will keep me going till Jade Empire, which I think will be more of what we wanted from Fable.

i am also dissapointed with fable. mabye its just the fact i just watched my friend play it for 6 hours and i never got one turn, which basically ruined the entire story without me ever playing once, or mabye its the way i found the AI to be very repetative such as either you do things and say things and they like you, or they hate you. beating the actual linear story was very short to, my friend accomplished it in about 9 hours. i have decided not to get fable and instead to get jade empire and Kotor2.

Your loss jermy. Your bud must have just plowed thru the game, which is a crappy way to play any game. I'm personally enjoying the sandbox.

Yea I'm starting to tire a little of it. I've been playing none stop for the past couple of days. I'm affraid to advance the main story because I hear the game is so damn short, I'm trying to do everything I can before I finish the game. One thing that is really annoying about this game is the total lack of difficulty, this is the easiest game I've ever played.

Hmmm....I've waited roughlty 2 years for this game and i beat it in a weekend, kinda sad really....atleast i can give bein evil a try. Kinda sad though, I really wish it would have been longer and maybe not so main quest based. But o well.-

It is way to easy. It seems I remember at the start of Morrowind getting killed by crabs. In Fable, I haven't lost a battle yet.

Those aren't set to be released for a while. KotOR 2 is SUPPOSED to come out in December but I'll believe that when I see it. Jade probably won't be available till christmas next year. Fable is definately worth it in the mean time.
I guess that X-men RPG is set to come out shortly. You could play that one I guess.

WHAT! You can do more things than slaying droagons and whatnot. Like go get laid or destroy a town and sell the land back for tons of money. Just whenever you get bored go do something in the town.

I've done all that. I've had my fines up to 9999999 gold because I just destroyed the guards over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the towns.

I did everything possible and beat it in 22 hrs.. Found every secret, opened all but 2 demon doors did all the main quest and all the side quests.. It's a great game and i had fun playing it but it was way to easy and way to short... I'm going to play through it again as an EVIL guy
I solved Fable in about 15 hours, and that was WITH quite a bit of wandering about and searching for the supposed secrets that lie within. Didn't find a single one. I have to say I prefer Morrowind as well. While Morrowind did take a great deal of time to set up, it offered a vast array of possibilities that ensured hours upon hours of play time. I could get lost within the world of Morrowind, but the cartoonishness of Fable and its scant side quests left me sorely disappointed. This was a game I'd ancipated for well over a year. Sad, really.

I think the game is addicting... I'm having alot of fun so far. Just taking my time and trying to find, explore, and do everything in this Fable world thats possible.
Maybe when I'm done I'll be evil this time... For now I'll stay neutral or good... Being evil at first was fun but like what TRIR just mentioned it starts to get expensive after a while and I hate being banned from villages... LOL! :)
Good Games!

Wow, thats insane. I've only done like 4 quests total and am almost 8 hours in, lol.
Different play styles I guess. Hell, if you aren't having fun burn though it. Thats what I do or I just quit playing.

Alas, if only the Xbox had the magical expansions of PC gaming. We'd all have a $30 expansion add on for Fable with 4 times the content of the original game and it would be out in 6 months.
Expansions for Xbox games would be freakin sweet.

Yeah, it would have been nice had there been difficulty settings. The combat system is pretty sweet, but it doesn't test you. I try to bust ass with out getting hit without sitting on the block button too much. Kinda make things more challanging as much as I can.
Anyone play as an archer? I'm going to go through it as an evil archer next time. It seems to be quite a bit different then melee. Of course, there will be some mage sprinkled in there just like my melee.
Anyone running through with an archer?

I agree the quest are not as hard as I thought... Since I'm still maybe in the middle part of gameplay I'm expecting it to get harder... But with the Boasting Platform quest option in the game brings that added challenge I like... :p Fun stuff!

I got to thinkin....if you think about it 13 hours is a long time for the average gamer. But we have been waiting for this game for a year and a half and just played the **** out of it in a weekend and beat it. To us it was short but others may find it just right.

Games pretty much over when it's over. It's boring with out any other quests. I guess I'll play it again with a different alignment...if I can keep interest. Otherwise it may be time to list it on ebay.

I beat it very quickly, and I did continue after the credits were done.
I was thinking of trying it again, but the only thing that would probably be different would be my character. I imagine that the sidequests that I woudl choose to do would be the same and the stuff behind the demon doors would be the same again.
I really don't know why these rpg game makers don't put an area/quest randomizer into the program code,so at least if a person felt like playing it a second or third time then the paths would be different and the quests would be different.
