I was a bit dissapointed by this... especially that everything is implied by him... Someone will say "What do you want? You say there's such and such going on?" Just a bit annoying, but oh well.

He's not mute -- they just don't have a voice for him -- it was the same with KOTOR...morrowind too wasn't it?

you can say follow or wait :)
I think the main reason for this, as in other RPG's, is that you're supposed to "be" your character. Maybe they feel that if your hero is constantly saying things how you wouldn't say them and in a different voice, that it takes some of the RP out of it.

The really stupid thing is he doesn't open his mouth when you use verbal gestures. What a strange corner for them to have cut...

That may be the case.
He does say a few words like Heeeeeey and follow and stay, lol, but its minimal.
I think the idea of using concepts to comunicate is a great idea, but its hard to impliment. With American Sign Lanuage they use signs for concepts and not words and they are able to convay a lot of words is one sign. Thus, 1 ex[ression = a lot of words. If you are used to it its easier and of course it has to be inplimented well, which it probablky isn't.
Its a great idea, but needs some work. Its not like there is a system to type anyuthing you want in and get a response. This is a step closer to natural conversations in RPGs. I hate being limited to just 8 expressions at this point. Hopefully they will increase drastically. (only 5-6 hours of playing around in game).

yes, but in most rpgs there isn'n spoken dialogue, like in morrowind or kotor. I do wish you have dialogue options for what to say though, it is never even implied in cutscenes though that hyou have said anything
