Drawing from your own experience, do you find that online leagues/tournaments work out better when you only play amongst your friends and people from this board for example? As opposed to leaving your league open to the public and playing against random people? Are people likely to not play their games or drop out in either case? Or is it usually more common when they're strangers who feel no commitment to your league? Maybe this is an obvious question.. but I'd just like to see some of your answers. Thanks.
Also, are there many active leagues during the post-season? I was thinking of starting a few online leagues after the NFL/NHL seasons cuz I'd like to play through the single player franchises first. Would this be a mistake? Thanks again.

well its funner to play with you freinds but if you are a good player urself then playing random people wont be that bad. And if they drop out try to find a decent player. I cant give you much more advice cuz anyone can bcome your freind right. so you just have to get A LOT of freinds if you want rock solid online play.

We do our own leagues on Clan-Council, basically since we know each other and trust each other enough to make sure the league runs smoothly, but there's always ones that get bored or annoyed that they're losing and ruin the fun for others by not playing the rest of their games. Thankfully, you can now replace the owners on the ESPN leagues, so that makes it better ten-fold.

by replacing owners, you mean replacing players in the league? can you do this even when the season has already commenced? if so that's pretty cool i suppose,. but would that not mess with the standings? thanx for the responses.

That's exactly what it means. Basically, if you kick someone out, or they quit, the team will show up on their website (www.espnvideogames.com) as No User - and the commish of the league can send an invite to whomever they want to fill in the league. This will not effect the standings, unless the week goes by without an owner taking the spot, thus letting the commish allow a win to the team that actually had an owner and moving to the next week.
