View Full Version : Should the Halo 2 forum be shut down until after November 9th?

I was curious and this is just something I was asking, it's by no means anything the staff is considering at the moment.

With the leaked version of Halo 2 out nearly a month early and everyone's concern of the spoilers being released to those that don't want to hear about it, should we shut down the Halo 2 forums and reopen them after the 9th?

It's going to happen. I know it is. Someone is going to post something. It's bound to happen and if anything I've learned being a staffer on a busy forum is that if any rule you post, someone will break it pretty quick.

Hell, we can't even stop people from implying they know something about that leaked Halo 2 copy. We have a huge rule about this sort of thing and people are still saying.. "PM me if you want to know something" and "I've seen it" and all that.

In a way, I feel it's more for our protection more than anything. I don't want to take a single chance with this.

But like I said, it's not something we are considering. If enough people agreed than maybe. That's why I'm asking.

no...

No way.

Just because the game was leaked doesnt mean that we should shut down the section. We have made it perfectly clear not to post anything about the leaked copies. Sure, someone is bound to do it. But by the same logic, we shouldnt have any forums open.

Music leaks? No off topic Lounge.
Xbox 2 details leaked? No general discussion.
Etc. Etc.

There's always a chance of it happening, but we've already done all we can.

Halo.Bungie.Org did it...Not sure if it stayed off....

Anyways, I could careless. I wont go into Halo 2 threads, its that simple.

I'm definately not one to get spoiled, but, I'm pretty careful about not reading any further if I remotely hear anything that is talking about a spoiler. So far, it hasn't happened (that is, I haven't read any spoilers).

I did hear a spoiler from a guy that I know; however, I wouldn't even dream of typing it here. In fact, I barely even know anything that was said and I shut the guy down before he could go any further.

The Halo 2 forum definately should stay. It's the hottest forum here at XBA at the moment... More members and guests view this forum than the Off Topic and the General Discussion combined.

Besides, if this forum closes, just imagine the plethora of Halo 2 threads that will pop up in the General Discussion.

It needs to stay. Just my 2 pennies.

Why should we change the way we do things cause of the losers who stole a game?

Definitely not. More halo 2 threads'll just show up in the General discussion thread.

Exactly! Why should a selective group of greedy pirating ass clowns ruin the forums of the greatest XBox fansite on the net?

Good point, dude

If that were the case, know how many halflife2 forums would be gone? :P

Exactly. I don't see a point in shutting it down - if something gets posted that's from the leaked game, staff will take care of it to make sure the members don't get it ruined.

If someone does see something that shouldn't be up there - i.e. the plot or screens posted, report it and we'll take care of it.

I voted No, for two reasons. First of all, if the Halo 2 Forums was closed down, it should be till November 11th, you can't spoil the story for us Brits either you know.

And secondly, if someone is really concerned to avoid spoilers, then you should just avoid the Halo 2 forum.

I've noticed other Halo 2 sites are considering this, like HBO.

Why? What if someone needs help? This is the perfect place to post without wasting space in the LIVe general or Xbox general discussions...

music/xbox 2 leaks won't spoil any story either.

i say keep them open though, just keep them heavily modded.

you could use some new staffers until november 11th just for this forum to mod it.

*wink wink*

Is there any way to prevent new members/ n00b members/ dumb members from posting in the forum cause that would be good. But it simply just wouldn't make sense to close it down this close to release beacause Bungie has official announcements that could be useful. Or you can just make me a mod.... ;)

I highly doubt someone will post Halo 2 spoilers on an Xbox fansite, but there will probably be a few on Halo /2 fansites

I will say this: A huge detail from the game has already been spoiled for me. Nothing from the plot, but something that can link to it, and it's pissed me off. But it was from a unorganized, rampant source, so I hope it's just bull****. Besides, I can pretty much tell you that you don't want to see any Halo 2 SP videos: they'll shock you.

We're not going to shut it down. It was just something of a conversational piece. I just wanted to see what people would say.

(I'm trying to save that kitten, damnit)

Kitt3nz r teh ownz0rz!!!11!!!

But really, I don't think we'll have too much of a problem here with spoliers cause we're not exactly known as a prominent Halo 2 fansite.

you should shut it down around the time oxm spolier review comes up.

If the Halo 2 forum closes, people will jsut post Halo 2 things everywhere else. If people are going to be posting spoilers, it's best to keep them all in one spot so that people who don't want to see them won't have to.
