Midway announces Mortal Kombat: Gone Fishin'
Publisher expands fighting franchise with new outdoor sport installment, due in 2005; plans more Mortal Kombat cross-overs.
Today, Midway announced that the Mortal Kombat franchise would take a turn into the outdoors, with Mortal Kombat: Gone Fishin'. Unlike regular Mortal Kombat games, Gone Fishin' will be an outdoor sport title that allows players to fish as Sub Zero on lakes such as Lake Mead, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, The St. Lawerence River, Bear Lake, and many other popular fishing areas in North America. The game is currently in devlopment for the XBOX only, but future cross-over installments may be released on the other systems.
The other big announcment from Midway regarding the Mortal Kombat series was that they plan to release further MK cross-over games, possibly one every year. "Mortal Kombat: Gone Fishin' is our first step toward something that Mortal Kombat fans have been calling for: a new game set in the real world, the real universe, with real survival situations," said Midway president David Zucker. Midway is also planning other cross-over Mortal Kombat games, some ideas tossed around have been Mortal Kombat: Badminton Bash, Mortal Kombat Tycoon, Mortal Kombat: Dance Dance Revolution, and Mortal Kombat: San Andreas.
