I find dual weapons cool in campaign, but not too fond of them online. Who knows, maybe I'll like it better the more I play. As of now, I think dual wielding just makes people run straight into each other until one or both of them dies.

actually dual wielding is fine to me online. When u hit somebody u automatcally drop the weapon. It would have been better is if you could hold duals then have like the battle rifle as a back-up instead of having to drop it every time u want to switch. I still think its cool.

Dual weilding is cool. It's not all that pawerful though. I was thinking before that It would be everything. You can't throw grenades. And throwing grenades IS important. You can't punch. You can't fire both guns at the same time (if you want any accuracy at all!). I tend to use it to carry a crappy gun in my off hand. I'll walk over a needler and just fire off some sounds until I get close enough for my machine gun to work. Or maybe a plasme pistal, that green charge shot can still make a guy have a bad day. It still removes ALL shields. That includes overshields. For the most part though I stick with one gun, keep my accuracy, keep my grenades, and keep my melee.

I don't like it online at all. It turns every game into a run 'n' gun and that just isn't what Halo is. Maybe if Bungie actually made a useful med-far range gun they would be alright, but that is certainly not the case.

thats where i think you are wrong... Double Magnums will kill you faster than a battle rifle, when shot properly... Needlers are not a crappy weapon anymore. Duel two needlers, and have good range and accuracy, and its a garuntee kill. beaver creek - duelling is clutch, and the battle rifle in reserve is good too... but duellies rock. just practice w/ dual pistols, they honestly kill faster close range

yeah scorp - ur right.. the Battle Rifle is NOT a medium-far range weapon, doesnt have a "great" range, and close up, the smg can take it out a lot

I'm a halo purist. I only use shot gun for close up body modification, but the trouble is that dual SMG's can pelt you good before the shot gun is effective, meaning they reduced it's range too much.

the only guns I duel with is the pistol.

it's awesome. i'm using it in alot of my tactics, and there are plenty of times where I prefer not to use it at all, so it's plenty well balanced

i'm a big fan of the plasma rifle and SMG combo, especially in single player, and especially vs. Jackals.

SMG and magnum are the best kill the shields with the smg then get a head shot. :hump:

the only thing i hate is no melee when holding duel weapons. i'm still trying to get used to that. nothin worse than a little trigger tap to let someone know you're behind them.

Halo is Run n' Gun. Halo is Strategy. Halo is, quite honestly, whatever you want it to be, which is why I think it appeals to so many people. You can be stealthy and tactical in other games, sure. But halo actually makes it fun. as for dual (spell it RIGHT people!) weapons, I love it. It is quite well balanced, as when you shoot both at once, it's very innacurate. It's very usefull vs. some enemies in the single player, you can empty one SMG, and while your reloading it, unload with the other one. I usually always do this, SP or MP.

I like it, I just get frusterated not having grenades handy. I forget you toss one gun when you get in a vehicle, so when I get out I'm like "where's that gun?"

But after learning all the tactics and nuances.. it's a good thing.

I like having the option of a handy grenade. With all the running and gunning, it's a good idea to have a last "gift" for the two or more enemies that you run into and that will surely kill you.

Grenades on King of The Hill are a must have!

Anyone who does a lot of online or system link play with Halo 1 or 2 you should realize that you have to be good at run and gun. If you spend all of your time sneaking around and waiting for that perfect one shot kill with a sniper rifle you will be in last place guaranteed.

I am a big fan of SMG in the right hand and Magnum in the left (only if I can't find the sword though)

It sucks on shields but once the shields die its a one shot kill(by a headshot).

They seem to suck in halo 2 but in halo 1 they were a must have sp weapon.

I was gonna ask the same question. Kind of wondering at what point any slayer battle isn't "run n gun." And for all of you dissing the BR, i've takin out plenty of people using that and they were dual wielding too. I think the beam rifle needs some props, its a bad ass gun, but we're talking dual wielding. My fav combo is plasma rifle SMG or SMG magnum. I always like to drop a weapon real quick to drop a nade and then switch to my big secondary, good tactic.

If I go against an average to good player with dual smg and I have an smg and a magnum I will beat them every single time. It is a great second gun.

Best combo IMO online is the SMG and plasma pistol. I also believe the BR is one of the better weapons because you only have to fire about 3 times to kill your opponent, if you are aiming towards their head. I've done it to people who have been dual wielding too.

Best combo I've tried is plasma rifle/magnum. The plasma slows em down, the armor peircing rounds aimed at the head makes short work. does well against most other duel setups

The problem, as I see it, is that grenades are less effective. They just don't bounce like they used to and seem to do less damage. If they worked better, I'd find it more balanced.

Also, just because it's run in gun doesn't mean it has to be stupid run and gun. And stealth isn't limited to being a sniper *****, either. They either need to make the grenades better or put more firepower behind the battle rifle.

Dual wielding virtually doubles the dynamic of the close quarters game.

Close quartering is supposed to be quick and frantic, thus making contesters searching for efficiency to rule over their contenders. Why are some of you complaining that dual wielding encourages players to just gun eachother until one falls first. That is the premise of close quarters when two players are aware of eachother. I stress close quarters because dual wielding does not rule the med-long range game at all. However, if you rumble pit all day, you will most likely stick to dual wielding.

In the hands of an experienced player, grenades and melee are not lost to dual wielding. For instance, when I double SMG, I may empty my clips, then melee, then jump back and shove a grenade. If i need a quick nade, i'll melee -> nade -> pick the dropped weapon up, all in one motion.

Thats what I'm trying to say. Grenades are pretty useless now that you can only throw then about half as far and the battle rifle takes quite a few rounds to kill someone (its definately more than 3)

It's way too early for a definitive verdict or any action to be suggested. Play with it, watch it evolve, decide in a few months when the community is established.

I see it as basically a further definition of what you can do in a close quarters combat scenario. It used to be whoever had the shotgun would take the match, but nobody complained then, it's just a matter of not letting yourself get caught unprepared. I've made more than one escape from a duel wielder when using only one gun by lobbing a grenade behind me, then use a longer range weapon to take them out. It's just a matter of learning to exploit what you're given.

I rack up many kills with DW. But don't think it gives you an advantage. Skilled players could still take you down especially up close with the shotgun.
