I was reading the Halo 2 review by EGM and something caught my attention.

Multi-Player Review
By Mark McDonald
I'm not worried about finding the time to play Halo 2 online; I'm worried about finding the time to do anything else. Seriously. Not since Phantasy Star Online have I been literally afraid of what a game is going to do to my social life.

I mean, just Halo's multiplayer on Halo 2's huge assortment of awesome maps (including a good mix of sizes and some old favorites) would have been bad enough. But oh no, Bungie had to go and add all these brilliant touches. Take the way Halo 2 uses player icons to present a ton of info about each teammate (who is where, are they fighting or dead, etc.) with why-didn't-anyone-think-of-this-before efficiency. Or how it rebalanced all the older weapons and added great new ones, especially the energy sword, which is so ridiculously fun to wield that people literally fight over it. Or all the extensive clan options. Or the intimidating amount of online stats you can track. Or the downloadable extras (including at least one huge surprise) on the horizon. Or the—damnit, you get the idea....

The best-looking and best-playing console shooter ever comes with the most impressive list of modes, options, and extras...ever? How am I supposed to find the motivation to work, much less do optional stuff like eat and sleep, when there are online matches of this available 24/7?

Now, I don't think a "huge surprise" would be considered vehicles, weapons or maps... So what other HUGE surprise could come via DLC?

For the most part, that's usually what you get on DLC's... Maps, Weapons,...

However, for pure speculation, how about the first level of Halo3... To help rid everyone of that hanging feeling people seem to be filling...

For me, Maps, and new weapons and possibly other character such as Brutes and what not would be cool....

Halo 3 is most likey going to be for Xbox 2 and wont run on xbox in good quality if they did that.

I know, but would you consider that a HUGE surprise?

For me, it'd be the online co-op, but I'd guess that it might be maybe something like what Tecmo did with Ninja Gaiden - unlockable map that can be used for a tournament, just a guess

Maybe more single player campaign stuff?

It has to be online co-op. I have no clue why Bungie would put that option in the menu, and not have the brains to take it out if it got scrapped.

Sheeyt

Is it actually in the menu?

I was wondering about...

Everyone was talking about how that was not in the game and noticed last night on live that it was an option...

Hmmmm

I think that it will certainly be something that has to do with the Live... What I am going to lean to the Online Co-op... ScorpionX made a great point.

If you make a custom game, go to options and it will be there. I was like :yikes:, but it didn't work :(

Wow! Maybe that will be the DLC.... Nifty!

It has to be online co-op.
Thats what I think too. Which is ok but now that I have beat it twice..... Um not something I really care about.

Yea, online co-op would have been better if it was originally included in the game, but I would definetly still use it if it was DLC. Maybe it's a continuation of the game (so the story isn't quite so much of a cliffhanger) that you can play online co-op. :D

I'd guess maybe a small expansion that continues the story, or a spin-off on a new/previous storyline

The only thing that would suck about that would be the lack of cutscenes in between. Unless they released them as a seperate download... Could you imagine the file size?

How about The Arbiter's story during the first Halo? Killing marines left and right! But, he doesn't have that suit at that point... maybe prequel levels from First Strike?

I'm disappointed that the story of Halo 2 had absolutely nothing to do with the story of First Strike. Except for the very end of the Book when the Prophet of Truth asks Tartarus to bring the one who failed to protect the ring infront of the council.

They don't even seem to mention the huge covenant fleet destroyed or the other surviving spartans. Why are they in the book if they aren't going to exist in the game?

Sheeyt

Thats what I'm talking about Studio, or the artifact that Dr Hasley found on Reach, or the fact that she took Kelly and disappeared.

In the book it seems as if the covenant are coming to Earth to distroy it. In the game it seems as if the Prophet of Regret accidentially found Earth, and didn't even know humans where there...... Thats what I find weird. Weren't the authors of the books given an outline of a story by Bungie and then they just went from there?

You would think Bungie kept tight control over the story in all three of the books. It's fine if they want to keep some things confined to the books (to keep us reading them) but they should at least acknowledge events from the books in the games. Like, a mention of the other Spartans (maybe video footage or something) fighting in other part of space.

The book led me believe that the story would have lots of intrigue. What about that guy with the new Super Soldier program that was supposed to be superior to the Spartans? How cool would it have been if humans splintered into two factions?

Who knows, I'm sure the next book is already written. As long as it's not a novelization of Halo 2 I'll probably check it out.

Like what Nurb said...

For me it would be more satisfying to get. ;)

[Note to self]

Buy Halo book ASAP.... :)

Guys, Bungie didn't want to put anything from the books into the game because they could confuse casual gamers. Another thing, the Prophet of Regret did not find Earth on accident. At the end of the ILB fiasco, they find a forerunner artifact on Earth and set off sort of beacon, that gave away it's position. Regret only came with such a small fleet because he was not expecting any Humans there. But I do agree on one thing tho. There are many many questions still floating around that have not been answered.

So ILB did have direct storyline to the Halo universe?

GuiltySpark
11-12-2004, 10:17 AM
Yep, it does. It'a also just as good or better than some of the books. Such a good story....

Anyway, what the mofo was bungie thinking with that f*cking ending. If I don't see some major SP DLC available in the next couple weeks, there's gonna be some bad stuff going down in Redmond.

How? How can they do that to us?

BTW, do you gain ANYTHING else from beating the game on a difficulty other than normal? Is there any difference in the story between the difficulties?

No just a more challenging experience from my understanding. I dont mind a cliffhanger ending. It's only a game and Halo 3 will be a thing of beauty on X2.

i think in the game, Regret took his fleet in too early. he knew where Earth was, but sent his battle force in before anyone else.

Also, the artifact that altered slipspace was destroyed.

And yeah...Linda (female spartan sniper) was alive with MC at the end of first strike. I really want to know where Dr. Halsey and Kelly went.

First question.. what was the mandatory update that I had to get when I played it for the first time?

Secondly, I think the DLC might be some new vehicles.
You know, I was watching that Limited Edition DVD and saw the cutting room floor segment and they showed the ATV.. called the Mongoose.
It was completed, workable and in the game until some point before release. Man that thing looked cool. They even said that it had a weapon board.
They showed other stuff, but the Mongoose was the only complete vehicle to be dumped.

My other theory would be to include a human flying vehicle. There is balance with the weapons, and for the most part, the vehicles.. except for the fact the Humans get the shaft when it comes to matching an air assist vehicle.
The Pelican would be way too big to include.. it would seem to be too unwiedly to use on any map other than Coagulation. Unless... this would be cool... and a far cry.. they created a Pelican sort of like the C130 Specter gunship, which would be just a big ass plane with a ton of air to ground weapons. But that would upset the balance in the game.

Essentially for DLC, I see new maps to be first before anything else.
Maybe the addition of online co-op.
Even the addition of Helljumpers and Brutes as character models.

Perhaps down the road, they would put out new vehicles and some big wide open maps to make all vehicle combat games.

Well I'm gonna be hoping for Online Co-op
