Man, we needed something to liven up this forum.
Full Story (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/568/568240p1.html)
IGN: Being big fans of the series, we're understandably excited about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Without giving too much away, what's the main thrust of the story here? Are there any narrative connections to the previous installments or is this an entirely new adventure?
Todd Howard: It's an all-new story. It does take place after the events of the other games, but we do each game to be its own thing -- a new game, and not necessarily a sequel to the previous game(s). The story itself follows the death of the Emperor, and an invasion from Oblivion. You have to find the true heir to the throne to stop the demons from Oblivion.
IGN: What's with the name Oblivion anyway?
Todd Howard: "Oblivion" in the world of the Elder Scrolls, is essentially Hell. It's where all the demons and dark lords come from. It's another plane of existence, and each of the dark lords rules a separate area of it. It has many facets, and each of the lords has appeared in our previous games. In this game, you'll actually be going to a plane of Oblivion itself.
:hail: We really need a drooling smilie.
As Homer would say: Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Dimensional Hell Planes. <gurgle>
