Battle Rifle... worst weapon?

i find this weapon to be one of the worst in the game under multiplayer, i simply cannot use it to kill my opponents, i can use this gun effectively ONLY if i have a plasma pistol as my primary weapon and BR as my secondary... or wheni find an enemy's shield has gone down...

is anybody experiencing the same thing as me with the Battle Rifle? any tips on using it?

the carbine in my opinion is way better than this gun...

noo nooo....i played against a guy today in team skirmish and it seemed like he killed me in like 3 shots, it seemed that quick, not sure if its his aim or my shields were going down but he was damn good with it upclose....this gun is kinda like the pistol people just havent figured it out yet..

If you're good enough to pull off coninuous headshots with it, its the best. But, I hate the weapon close range, and I perfer a sniper rifle from far range. So, IMO, the Battle Rifl is the worst weapon in the game. (and it annoys the hell out of me when im sniping and some asshat shoots me with that damn gun and im not even aiming at him)

Its a monster at meduim range it by no means is a bad weapon. The carbine is awsome too who ever hates these weapons must not know how to use them.

but now that i think about it, throwing grenades to help take out the shields of your opponents are a nice way to finish them up with the BR... but i still think its hard to shoot against dual wielders... guess i got some BR practicin to do...

I dont need to even use grenades with the battle rifle I just fire a quick 4 shouts at the dudes head and hes dead quick and easy but the carbine on the other hand needs nades to be really effective or you will only be able to face one foe running at you.

BR's a nice weapon... I think Coagulation is the best map to use it at. In CTF at Coagulation I like the Battle Rifle-Sniper Rifle combo. That combo is good for supporting your attackers up the middle.

i think the BR is a great short midrange to long midrange weapon if you know how to use it right. jusst stay out of their range and aim for the head.

and i've been killed with just 2 or 3 shots to the head from the carbine a few times, but i can't seem to use it very well yet.

Battle rifle is an insane weapon, if you use it right. I remember first playing the game, and absolutely hating it because it fires burst and it's hard to get every burst shot as a hit. If you have the battle rifle, and your aiming at a head, up close, far away, doesn't matter, 2-3 shots will take him out. The gun is hard to learn, but very rewarding once mastered :D

i LoOoOoOoOoVe the battle rifle! seriously, most maps provide an area with distance too great for effectice dual weilding. i always like to carry around a battle rifle and a shot gun, or a sniper and a shot gun (im so soorry soundscape! im a sniper, thats just the way i play! ditto to warrior!). anyways, battle rifle = teh cool. play me sometime, ill make you love that weapon.

The BR is the "in between weapon." It's good because it's got some range on it.
You can shoot at people that are further away than what you can hit with the SMG but too close to use a sniper rifle.
In other words you can wear someone down pretty bad before he becomes a real threat.

It's a great weapon in certain situations. I was playing assault on headlong, defending. By myself, I spot the bomb carrier and four body guards coming from the sword side. I run across the bridge, chuck a grenade and proceed to mow three down and hold the other two back until back up arrives because all they have are shotguns, smgs and the sword.

But close range, it's virtually worthless, especially against dual wielders.

The carbine, with its faster rate of fire and larger payload is superior, even if it does slightly less damage.

I used to not like the BR, but now I love it. It seems really easy to get headshots with, and it's great for midrange combat. So many people dual wield stuff that if you can spot them when they're far enough away, you can kill them before they get close enough to kill you.

Whoever dislikes the Battle Rifle obviously does not know how to use it (or can't aim).

Battle Rifle is a very conditional weapon if it is all you use; you can only use it in specific situations. Usually, the person can find cover by the time you kill him. Maybe you'll get a kill on Coagulation if some guy is running across the field. Anyhow, if that's all the Battle Rifle was for, you are all right - it would suck.

However, it kills someone with no shields in one shot. Let me make it bold: You can kill someone with no shields in one shot. Good game.

Plasma pistol - Battle Rifle combo is insanely deadly. You can literally kill the person as soon as the charged blast hits. Aim for that head.

For the most part, whoever controls the sword and the lead on Midship controls the game. Most people I play with rush for the shotgun positioned below the sword, but I get the underrated Battle Rifle. Think about it. Everyone in Midship (like your Team Slayer buddies) spawns with a plasma rifle - one of the most effective shield eaters in the game. It offers a quick drain of your enemy, but isn't so quick at killing once the shields ARE down. Now, if you have the Battle Rifle, your teammates can do the draining, and you do the killing. Very effective, and more pliable and useful than the shotgun and sword - especially in Team Slayer.

I prefer the Carbine to the BR. I've killed people several times in 1 on 1 battles with the Carbine, but I've had a much lower success rate with the BR.

the Battle Rifle is awesome... does lots of damage from far away and is decent up close... i always carry it as my secondary in larger levels... i think the Needler is the worst weapon... whenever i use it i do kill the guys, but i die before them and the slow needles kill them after

Speaking of the Carbine, many people say that it is the Covenant's answer to the BR. Wrong. It is very different in the fact that it doesn't shoot lead. I find it much more effective than simply killing than the BR - If 2 people went at eachother (Rifle Duel), 1 with BR and the other with Carbine, the guy with Carbine will tend to win.

You have to combine it with a weapon. Say for instance you bang a fool out with the plasma rifle then switch to the BR and he's dead in three. Do it backing up as it works well with distance. Also use it when you see 2 guys or gals going at it across the board and zoom in and brrrraaaap, brrrrraaaap, steal a kill. :cheers:

I don't think it's possible for you to be more wrong. The Battle Rifle is the most underrated gun in the game. On Collossus and Midship it is the difference maker. Teammate going for the flag on Collossus? Give him cover fire with the BR and it keeps your opponents shields down or hidden. You don't have to kill someone but it helps out.

If you have a weapon in your hand in this game and you can't confidently kill someone with it, you aren't good enough with it yet because they are all effective.

I don't mind it in Halo 2 when I have it dual wielded with a SMG, as long as someone's close, I can hit them with a fully charged blast and then shoot them up with the SMG for the quick kill.

The BR is without a doubt, the kill stealing gun. I will second the statement that you can hangout in relative safety watching a fight in the near distance through your scope. You see someone getting worked over.. shot a 3 round burts to their head and the kill is yours and you get an assist.
Shields down or almost down.. whenever that alarm starts, one head shot burst will do the trick.

It's equally annoying when you spawn off with a SMG and you're running along, you know you're pretty much dead if someone starts capping you with the BR. Unless you intend to run away and hide, there's nowhere to go for you.

I tend to dual wield alot now becuase i only play 2 maps basically which are lockout and ivory tower, i dont have live yet so i play 4 players which is why i play smaller maps :D

due to this new feature of dual wielding, i noticed i stopped with my aiming now. I am average when it comes to aiming, its harder for me to aim for the head now than in halo 1...

you guys have convinced me enough to master this BR, and i will keep using it till i do :)... i just have to work on my head aiming, i'm terrible in halo 2 at aiming for heads... maybe if i can work on my aiming i will change my opinion on the BR...

and yes i also agree that the BR is a kill stealing machine... its nuts

u cant kill anyone with shields with 4 rounds from the battle rifle. I keep whatever gun i can get, as long as it's deadly i can get a kill with it. None of the guns suck they just dictate how you have to play. You cant rush into a room or base with a needler and uzi, the needler takes some time to stick to the guy and make the little explosion. you can easily get a double kill with a single mag of handgun rounds an an uzi.

easiest way to win pull off the trigger pulls square to the head every one of the three bursts hit in each head shot so most likely someone rushing you can easily kill them it's not so bad I do it all the time with my friends them with sword me wioth a BR it's fun and easy :D unless your someone that can't aim for **** and isn't good at using the sniper or Pistol from Halo1 and 2

Or switch to semi auto and take out grunts with one well placed shot, instead of wasting 3, thus leaving more ammo (less reloading/wasting ammo) to take care of the bigger enemies.

the battle rifle rox, its good for sniping and close range battle. It only takes 5 hits to kill someone and its almost undetectable where the firing is coming from. I mean its possible but unlikely if you are farther away. The weapon rox, Its better than the pistol from Halo.

i just played halo 2 multiplay for another hour using the combo:

magnum and smg... man this is one VERY powerful combo for midrange, close range battles... it owns on lockout (one of few maps i play) i managed to kill 2 people without reloading either weapon...

magnum and magnum is also a very nice combo i am getting famaliar with... but i use it only for mid to long range battles....

also i'm finding grenades being very effective... i take back all my complaints on the degrading of its power... its useful after i figured out when and how to use them :P

the reason alot of the weapons "suck" is because the weapons weren't meant to be relied on as one weapon, you are supposed to use all of the weapons as a whole. The game was based on realistic physics and health. This game was meant to be more realistic than the first, while I love the BR its not always the best tool for the job. Sometimes you need dual weapons, sometimes a sword. It all depends on the situation, get used to all of the weapons, dont rely on one. The BR is really good as a long range weapon, the CC is basically the br's equivalent only it has a much faster fire rate. Just give all of the weapons a try, see which you like in what situations. Dont knock the weapons though, just because you cant use them.

I still dont like the BR, but I have noticed that it is very useful for mid-range attack on low-range opps. If he has an SMG and you have the BR.. if you keep a good distance and walk backwards/forwards with/against him you can win.

but close range.. bleh.. facing guy with sniper or rocket.. bleh..

The BR is the best overall weapons in the game, IMO. To me, it's the closest equivalant the Halo 1 pistol. I'm not saying that it's equal, by no stretch, but, definately the closest.

If you can time a grenade just right, take of the shield...one triple shot with the BR equals death.

The more I play Halo 2, I'm noticing the grenades are more and more useful.

Well, as I've been forced to use this weapon more often, I've concluded its actually probably the best weapon in the game provided you can get a series of headshots. If you can pull that off, you're golden with this gun.

I've always usually kept the battle riffle as my secondary weapon, its weak up close but if you can catch someone out in the open its their funeral lol.
