I think g has a max of 54 mbps and b is only to 11mbps, I would say get a 802.11g router.
Here's a link if you need more help http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/wireless80211/a/aa80211standard.htm

depends on if you want to transfer alot of files between computer on your network. if you do that, definately get at least the G, and if you can afford it go with the hardware that supports the faster speeds like the dlink extreme series that supports 108mbps instead of the normal 54mbps

You should ask yourself what do you want to do with it? Do you want to set up a wireless home network with your Xbox and a few computers? Or do you want to just wirelessly use your Xbox and that's it.
If it's the first choice, just get the B, and that's it.
However, if you want to run a network.. even if it's just 2 computers and the Xbox, or you think you want to in the future, get the G format.

B or G won't make a difference in your gaming experience because both have the capacity that exceeds the current bandwidth package in broadband.
But G will give you a better experience if you're running other computers across a network.

So, just take that for what it's worth.

thx, i got the g. So far its pretty much plug and play. I just spent more time doing the security feature so no one will be using my wireless access from like next door and stuff. Anyways, i only have a desktop and a laptop now(the i book). Now, can i run a network between my desktop and my laptop?? My desktop, runs windows xp, but my laptop uses OSX. will the network work between them???

If you live in an apartment make sure you get the security perfect. Everyone tries to steal your signal.
