View Full Version : "Swapping" US Xbox Shell with the Japanese LE version

Hi,
I am ordering the Japanese Xbox Special Edition and since it can't play US games, I figured at least I could swap its "Transparent Shell" with my current US system.

Question for you:
Do you know if the bottom portion of the system can be detached from the Motherboard's PCB? From all the "Dissected XBox" web site shots that I have seen, it seems as if only the top part (and the internal components can be removed)

I would really appreciate your responses. Thanks in advance!

The transparent one is cool and all, but, if you take apart your XBox, you risk voiding the warranty...in case you might not have known.

I like it, but, not enough to pull mine apart. I'm perfectly happy with the existing one...it's my black beauty :D

My guess would be you'd have to break something to separate the motherboard from the bottom of the case. Whether it be little plastic tabs holding it together or something more secure, i'm not sure.

Good luck.

Beauty is on the inside...
anyone tell you that?...
In this case it's actually true. :D
If you wanna spend another $300, and risk another $300 after already spending $300 (qalmost $1,000 in all) to just make it look difforent, instead of buying a lot of games...
you are;
1) Rich beyond the rest of us (:)share the wealth...)
2) someone who rather look at the Xbox then play it
3) collect anything with the Xbox logo
4) 1 & 2
5) 2 & 3
6) 3 & 1

I'm also gonna have to vote no for that procedure. It'd be cool but it seems like a really big hassle.

cause it looks cool! But, I wouldn't risk it buddy, too big of a risk for how it looks. I don't know about you, but when I'm playing, I'm not looking at the box, im looking at the TV

The price I was quoted for a SE XBOX was $450. I think they look cool and considered buying one so I could play Japanese games.

However, it does have different power requirements so a power converter would be necessary. I certainly wouldn't pay $450 just for a plastic shell but maybe I'm just a cheapskate.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone made replacement shells for the XBOX.

Snap-on covers would be cool(like diff. colors of the "X" portion), but I doubt that they will make replacement shells...
From what I figure they are hard to take off.;)
