View Full Version : No Doom 3 for Xbox....for at least 2 months

....this year, that is.

(*EDIT* Feel free to keep reading, but I, like many, know nothing about fiscal calendars and assumed this article meant no Doom 3 until April 2006. However, Q1 of fiscal year 2006 begins THIS April, so we should have it in the next couple months. IGN even ran another article to clarify the info from the article I quoted below. Oh, and thanks Lynx. :) )

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Activision reports $1.2 billion in net revenues, an impressive 53% increase over $784.8 million reported for the same period last year.

Despite the cheerful news, Activision has a slight downer for fans of demon-slaying: DOOM 3 for the Xbox and the DOOM 3 PC expansion have both been pushed back to the company's fiscal 2006, which would mean April at the earliest. While neither title had received a solid date, Xbox gamers in particular have been eager for id Software's hot FPS sequel.

Vicarious Visions AND Activision can eat a fat one. Bastages.

Arghh, I was just getting hyped up to get this game for XBox because I really don't enjoy PC games as much. Oh well, more Chaos Theory time for me.:hump:

Ughhh, does this have to be corrected everytime it is posted?

Fiscal year 2006 folks. That starts in April of calendar year 2005, as in 2 months away.

HL2 is for the computer. Anyone who would get it for the Xbox vs. Computer will be missing out on some of the greatest graphics ever!

I'd buy Doom 3 over HL2 anyday.

Wait, what? Hahaha. Obviously many were confused, as IGN and TXB both posted the story as if Doom wouldn't release until next year. Apparently, IGN realized this and has posted another article to clarify things (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/586/586513p1.html).

I doubt that Doom3 will come to the Xbox anytime after 2005 for the simple reason that MS is planning on releasing their next-gen console during the 2005 holiday season. (to the best of my knowledge)

>> ms play no part in the release of the game... it is coming in 2005, it has been confirmed

i doubt if d3 will blow anyone away when finally released. i have played it on my pc and and it just didn't cut it like the original. sure, the graphics and atmosphere are rather impressive but it wasn't awe inspiring game play. infact the game play was actually lame. Judging by the demos of Area 51 that looks a far more inpressive game. and painkiller (if going by the PC version) is going to smack.

Thats ok. That gives me time to save up for it. BTW, I have the Collector's Edition of the game on pre-order :D

If you haven't played it on PC.

Even then, it isn't even that good.

you snob :p :)

if you're not too good for a nice old-fashioned corridor shooter with more atmosphere than almost any other game out there, Doom 3 is worth it. the reviewers put it down because there wasn't much innovation or variety in terms of gameplay or atmosphere, but hey, not every game needs vehicles, squad-based gameplay, and 10 different environments to be great. i had a lot of fun with it (but meh, i'd recommend half life 2 over it:D)

most reviews i saw gave it 90% +... i dont call that putting it down, i have it on pc.... lets hope resurection of evil innovates a bit more

IGN gave it 8.9, most reviews were in low nines or mid-to-high 8s, which is lower than i would have expected.

I liked the graphics, atmosphere, and the whole "man, I played this when I was a kid, look at it NOW!"

But, I never finished the game. Just didn't pull me back.

The ending was NOT worth it :/

The ending was NOT worth it :/

I know, I didn't play to the ending because I saw that it wasn't worth it. My dad and I played the game together from beginning to end, switching off between levels. He had the "honor" of playing the end.

So when I played the game on my PC, I didn't bother to go through the entire game.

i would be amazed if they could make it look as prety on xbox, full detail on pc is amazing!
